Carahunge is a megalithic monument in southern Armenia that has often been acclaimed as the oldest observatory. The monument, composed of dozens of standing stones, has some perforated stones. The direction of the holes has been measured and their orientation is related to the sun, moon, and stars, obtaining a date for the construction of such devices. After a critical review of the methods and conclusions, these are shown as untenable.

Consideration is given to the problem of computing the geocentric rectangular coordinates of the moon and sun on the basis of the DE200/LE200 ephemerides. The type A multi-wavelength IR imager is composed of three kinds of pixels. In the device, three kinds of pixels with different spectral responsivities are arranged in the form of a stripe in the vertical direction of the CCD. The type A device is used within the wavelength range of 3 - 5.5 micrometer. The type B device is a multi-wavelength IR imager in which four kinds of pixels with different spectral responsivities are arranged in the vertical direction in the form of a stripe. The type B device is used within the wavelength range of 1.5 - 2.5 micrometer. We report the structure, the characteristics and some applications of the multi-wavelength IR imagers.

We report a room-temperature direct bonding technique for wafer combinations of InP-Ce:YIG, Si-InP and Si-LiNbO<sub>3</sub>. This technique is versatile for integrating optical devices that are composed of different crystals.

Critical sets in direct products of back circulant Latin squares

In this paper a family of critical sets is identified for latin squares which are the product of the latin square of order 2 with a back circulant latin square of odd order. The proof that each element of the critical set is an essential part of the reconstruction process relies on the proof of the existence of a large number of latin interchanges.

Orientation Parameters of the Cepheid System in the Galaxy

Based on the distribution of long-period Cepheids, we have redetermined the orientation parameters of their principal plane in the Galaxy. Based on 299 Cepheids with heliocentric distances $r<20$ kpc and pulsation periods $P\geq5^d$, we have found the directions of the three principal axes of the position ellipsoid: $L_1=281.0\pm0.1^\circ,$ $B_1=-1.9\pm0.1^\circ,$ $L_2= 11.0\pm0.7^\circ,$ ... [Show full abstract] $B_2=0.2\pm0.1^\circ$ and $L_3=275.9\pm0.7^\circ,$ $B_3=88.1\pm0.1^\circ$. Thus, the line of nodes $l_\Omega=L_3+90^\circ=5.9^\circ$ is very close to the direction to the Galactic center; the Cepheid symmetry plane is inclined to the Galactic plane approximately by $-2^\circ$ in the direction of the first axis ($L_1$). The direction of the line of nodes found from old Cepheids ($P<5^d$) differs significantly and is $l_\Omega=298^\circ$. The elevation of the Sun above the Galactic plane has been estimated from 365 closer stars ($r<4$ kpc) without any constraint on the pulsation period to be $h_\odot=23\pm5$ pc.
