NORDIC WALKING, HEALTH PROMOTION TOOL FOR A
LIFETIME

INTRODUCTION
Physical incactiviy is increasing among many groups in the population and requires efective
interventions. Nordic Walking (NW) is a full body exercise that incorporates the use of poles to
the regular walking. NW is suggested as an ideal physical activity to promote health in
different facilitative environments during the life cycle.
OBJECTIVES Y METHODOLOGY
Determine the suitability of NW as a health promotion tool in different facilitative environments
during the life cycle. Literature review.
RESULTS
The literature review identified
research involving the use of NW in
different facilitative environments
during the life cycle (Fig. 1).
The ease of learning of NW
technique as well as physical,
pshycosocial and implementation
benefits, make NW a valid tool to
promote healthy habits during the
different stages of life.
CONCLUSIONS
NW is a sustainable activity, cost-effective, social and environmentally-friendly. Given its
versatitly it is of easy implementation as a helath promotion tool in different facilitative
environments during all stages of life, from childhood to third age.
