This book is a personal account by one man who left the priesthood and transitioned into a successful career as an academic. It is no fairy tale, however, as it details the problems he encountered first in the religious and then in the secular world as he grew to become a lover and a parent. Enhancing the story are a collection of poems by the author and other writings by him or about his work.

The effect which the dramatic rise of the computer industry has had, and is having, upon traditional employment patterns is a topic which evokes more concern and controversy than convincing empirical analysis. The lack of definitive studies is partly due to the difficulty of operationalizing reliable measures of computer impact upon employment strategies. It is also partly due to the diverse ways and settings in which computers affect employment patterns.

This study is based on the hypothesis of futurology stating that future images influence in many ways the present activities and decision‐making of both individuals and communities. The purpose was to forecast various possible future developments in adult education based on future images of adult educators (N = 117) working in Finnish institutions of vocational education. The information was gathered by mailed questionnaires which were collected at training sessions arranged by regional governments for adult educators. The data contained 832 future images. Threatening and desirable images associated with the functions and resources of adult education were most frequent. There were least mentions regarding continuities and the organization and process of education.
