Synacra paupera Macek (Hym., Diapriidae) new to Britain: A parasitoid of the greenhouse pest Bradysia paupera Tuomikoski (Dipt., Sciaridae)

The examination of recently collected material of Synacra species in the collection of The Natural History Museum, London (BMNH) and the author's collection (DGN) revealed the presence of Synacra paupera, a species of diapriid wasp new to Britain. This paper records the occurrence of S. paupera in Britain discusses its biology, European distribution and dispersal and establishes a link with previously existing information on its potential for biological control of sciarid fly pests in greenhouses (Notton, 1997).
