A dennition of cultural properties which is provided for in Cultural Properties Protection Low has been adapted broadly in the school education. They are classified into four large groups in it，tangible and intangible cultural properties，folklore data，and monuments．Cultural studies laying stress on cultural properties have consistently preserved an important place in Japanese social studies after the World War II，though they marked characteristic features according to the wave of the times. Nara Prefecture is abundantly blessed with historical features and precious ancient cultural properties，so some national or private research institutions of cultural properties have been established there．Nowadays the need of the establishment of a research institution for cultural properties education is keenly felt in order to promote cultural studies not only in social studies but broadly in the school education．We believe that Nara Prefecture will be the most suitable place for it．

Contrary to what is claimed in much of the extant literature, the Japanese state has clearly undergone significant transformation. Indeed, while the state has taken a lesser role in industrial policy and matters relating to the social domain (both historically significant areas of action in the developmental state model), the overall place of the state has grown, not shrunk, as it now assumes a greater (if less visible) role in preserving the stability of a liberalized, finance-driven market. In Japan, the characteristics of the state have considerably changed in both qualitative and quantitative terms, changes that can be described as a neoliberal hybridization of the developmental state model.

[Show full abstract] published in the last 10 years into ‘global studies’ and ‘local studies.’ The former broadly examine general matters related to proof and proving such as the nature of proof, historical developments, students’ understanding of proof across the grades and so on. The latter examine more specific aspects of proof and proving. We then give a critical review of the studies in each category (sections 2 and 3), identifying key messages and conclusions. Finally, we outline the direction in which these suggest future research might be conducted in order to improve the current situation of the teaching and learning of proof in Japan (section 4). Singling out just a few, Barbara Cooper's Aria, made of interlaced wood-veneer strips, hovers like a living thing, emanating an almost audible pulse. The basketry sculptures of Jiro Yonezawa are exquisite representatives of that Japanese oeuvre and Anne Wilson's Hair Work is beautiful in its combination of large scale and exquisite delicacy. The galleries at the Chicago Cultural Center are elegant, but the installation was problematic.

Geographers, on the other hand, have overlooked dynamic processes in identifying central places in regional systems. In geographical central place studies, therefore, the dynamic processes of central place systems remain an important subject to be ... [Show full abstract] studied. This paper aims at reconstructing the central place system in the Nagano Basin between 1879 and 1950 to identify historical changes. Although the previous studies attempted to reconstruct central place systems using population data only, this study includes such comprehensive elements as commercial, service, administrative, traffic, and industrial functions. The Centrality Index (CI) is calculated to identify the size and location of central places, based on quantitative indices of population, merchant households, and numbers of service industries and factories. The functions of central places were reconstructed by Z-scores of these indices. Central place systems were inferred in three historic stages: the early Meiji era (1879), the Taisho era (1920), and after World War II (1950). The results are summarized as follows: 1. In the early Meiji era, there was a Nagano central place system and a Nakano sub-system in the Nagano Basin. The Nagano system comprised most of the Nagano Basin, while the Nakano sub-system covered the northern part. 2. These systems had three hierarchical orders: the first-order central places, Nagano and Nakano, served the whole Nagano. Basin; the second-order central places served the area of a county; the third-order central places served a few towns and villages. 3. In the Taisho era, the Nakano sub-system was integrated into the Nagano system. As a result, the Nagano system covered the whole area of Nagano Basin. 4. After the Taisho era, the gap in size increased between Nagano and second-order central places. 5. At the same time, the distinction between second-order and third-order central places became less evident. The central place system thus became simplified.
