Abstract

The geographic information system (GIS) has dramatically changed the rate at which georeferenced data can be produced, updated, and disseminated. It has made the production and analysis of geographic information more efficient, and has changed the way this information is perceived and used. GISes now play an essential role in the management of land resources from the local to the global scale, from municipal planning to natural resource assessment. Provides a concise and practical introduction to the use of GIS technology. General concepts are introduced with examples that show a wide range of applications including agriculture, land use planning, mining exploration, and municipal information management. A chapter is devoted to the fundamentals of remote sensing, which has become a major GIS data source. The procedures and equipment used for data input and output are reviewed. Data quality, data management, and GIS analysis functions are presented and, finally, the process of GIS implementation is examined. -after Author

Perceived stress is the feelings or thoughts that an individual has about how much stress they are under at a given point in time or over a given time period. Higher education is of paramount importance to the country as universities are the places where knowledge is created through research and invention. To preserve the continuous smooth flow of knowledge creation and dissemination, lecturers play a vital role in the system. Therefore, their mental condition becomes a crucial factor, as stress can lead to various negative consequences. Even though university academics are knowledgeable, many tend to express feelings of experiencing stress in day-to-day life. As there is limited research conducted on the perceived stress among university academics oftwo state universities, this research could bridge the knowledge gap that exists in this regard. The research aims to investigate the perceived stress levels of university academics. The main theoretical framework of this study consisted of the theory of stress and coping developed by Lazarus and Folkman. The study population was comprised of two reputed state universities in Sri Lanka. Of the population of 813 lecturers, a sample of 262 was selected. It was selected to have a confidence level of 95% that the real value is within ±5% of the measured/surveyed value. Seven faculties from each university were selected for this study, and 131 academics from each university were randomly selected to be participants. Although the questionnaire was sent to 262 participants, only 50 of them responded. Convenience sampling was used as the technique for sample selection. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) is the most widely used psychological instrument for measuring the perception of stress, and it was used as the instrument in the study. The primary data were gathered through the distribution of questionnaires as Google forms, mainly due to the disturbances in the country. Secondary material was gathered through books and other published research articles. By analysing the gathered data through SPSS, the researcher identified that 96% of the participants suffer from moderate to high stress. This is concerning as they are required to be mentally and physically strong in order to maintain the smooth flow of knowledge creation and dissemination. Some of the participants are engaged in different activities as solutions to stress. However, only 7% of them are engaged in relaxation exercises as a way of coping with stress. This could be mainly due to a lack of awareness regarding the benefits of relaxation exercises. As a researcher, it is important to reiterate the importance of the awareness of perceived stress and the employment of different mechanisms for decreasing stress levels for the betterment of one’s well-being.

Although modernity is praiseworthy for it has brought a plethora of desirables that surely transformed humanity in a big way, socially, religiously, economically and so on, on issues of slavery and slave trade there is nothing praiseworthy. The desirability of modernization cannot be wholly and gleefully accepted without a coordinated and research-backed ridicule if the issue of the subtlety continuance of slavery is considered. Contextually, the breaking point between ancient era and contemporary is seemingly in theory as the orthopraxis of human behavior proving otherwise; there was no break but continuity of these vices which intransigently took up the shape of each historical contexts from past into present and future so that they suit timeous social contexts. This article argues that slavery and slave trade did not end but morphed into socially, economically and politically contextualized desirables of each historical period overtime, notwithstanding the pretentious and fruitless efforts taken to end all these such as enactment of laws and public ridicules by the former perpetrator-countries. Slavery and slave trade were made to lurk deeply into the contemporary social discourses which are within the cocoons and sophistries of modernity but to the detriment of the poverty-stricken folks. The major point worth-noting is that in the 21st century, slavery and slave trade are insidiously present and they are found in the country to country diplomatic relations as well as between employer-employee engagements. This article also argues and calls it, modernized slave trade and slavery since they are imbued with the current contexts within the enclaves of socio-economic and political influences. The future looks gloomy as slavery is no longer open as it was in the 15th century; now it has been rebranded into acceptable, perfidious and subtle ways of living.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into various sectors has significantly impacted privacy law, raising complex legal and ethical questions. AI systems, particularly those utilizing big data and machine learning algorithms, have the capacity to collect, analyze, and infer sensitive personal information at unprecedented scales. This capability challenges existing privacy frameworks that were primarily designed for less intrusive technologies. Key concerns include the potential for AI to bypass user consent, the difficulty in achieving meaningful transparency and accountability, and the risks associated with automated decision-making processes that may lead to privacy infringements or discrimination. Privacy laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, have begun to address these challenges by emphasizing data minimization, purpose limitation, and the right to explanation. However, the rapid advancement of AI technologies necessitates a continuous reassessment of legal principles to ensure they are robust enough to protect individual privacy in an increasingly automated world. This abstract explores the interplay between AI development and privacy law, highlighting the need for adaptive legal frameworks that balance innovation with the protection of fundamental privacy rights. The work adopts the doctrinal method of research, where materials sourced, both primary and secondary are subjected to content analysis.

The regression analysis indicates these variables explain 2.3% of the variance in firm performance (R² = 0.023). The motivation to learn (β=0.079, p=0.009), supervisor support (β=0.128, p=0.022), and training employee attitude (β=0.196, p=0.013) were found to be statistically significant predictors of firm performance. In conclusion, strategic training practices such as motivation to learn, supervisor support, and employee attitudes significantly enhance firm performance. The study recommends that HR consultancy firms in Nairobi prioritize fostering employee motivation through continuous professional development and training. Strengthening supervisor support via leadership programs and promoting positive attitudes toward training, aligned with employee career goals, will enhance both individual growth and firm performance.

Asnaf refers to those who are in poverty, a serious issue for the country as it becomes a burden. Therefore, this study aims to assess the effectiveness of the EduKomEko model implemented among the asnaf. This model encompasses aspects of education (Edu), community (Kom), and economy (Eko). The study’s background demonstrates that existing programmes still have many shortcomings as the asnaf continue to rely on continuous aid to survive. This problem significantly impacts the country because they are unable to become self-sufficient in improving their living standards. As a result, the current cost of living has become more challenging, causing them to remain trapped in poverty. A quantitative approach was employed to conduct descriptive and comparative analysis, allowing the researchers to assess changes in key indicators, including education, community involvement, economic well-being, and psychosocial support, before and after the model’s implementation. The study adopts a quasi-experimental design with 53 asnaf divided into treatment and control groups. The treatment group participated in the EduKomEko model intervention, while the control group did not. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire in pre-test and post-test phases, and the results were analyzed using SPSS software. T-tests were conducted to determine significant differences between the two groups. The reliability of the questionnaire was validated with Cronbach’s alpha exceeding 0.7, indicating high reliability. The findings indicate that the model positively impacts financial management awareness, subsequently improving the living standards of the asnaf. This study can help eradicate poverty to a zero level and enhance the social and economic welfare of the asnaf. Future studies should focus on expanding the model to other states by incorporating technology to achieve a more effective and sustainable impact. Additionally, integrating digital platforms could facilitate broader access to educational resources and economic opportunities, further empowering the asnaf and ensuring long-term resilience against poverty.

Implementing IFRS 9 in Nigeria brought with it both opportunities and challenges to the banking industry which require a thorough analysis. A lot of questions remain unanswered on how the implementation of IFRS 9 impacts banks’ bottom lines. This study aimed to assess how the adoption of IFRS 9 has affected the financial performance of Nigerian deposit money banks. The impact of the introduction of IFRS 9 on the performance of the DMBs in Nigeria was investigated by analyzing financial performance metrics, including return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). The study used Access Bank Limited (ACL), Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTB), United Bank for Africa Limited (UBA), and Zenith Bank Plc (ZB) as a case study. A paired sample t-test was used to analyze the data from the banks’ financial reports for the five years before and after the adoption of the standard. The results implied that different banks saw different effects from the implementation of IFRS 9. Stability was shown by ABL while UBA showed a significant rise in both ROA and ROE, demonstrating successful planning and transition tactics. Major changes occurred at GTB and ZB, highlighting the significance of strategic financial planning and strong risk management frameworks in sailing through the challenges brought about by IFRS 9. According to the findings, Nigerian DMBs’ ROA and ROE are significantly impacted by the standard’s implementation. The study recommends that banks should maintain a proactive approach to monitor and adjust their financial strategies and operations accordingly given the ongoing evolution of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

This paper focuses on the local healing practices adopted by women and the women’s healthcare system in a rural area of the Magura district. This paper also investigates the reasons for selecting local healing practices as an alternative to modern healthcare services. Qualitative research has been used in this study to get a comprehensive view of the health care system of rural women. The study found that rural women mostly choose Palli Chikitshaks (Rural Medical Practitioners) for their medical treatment. The penchant for choosing other local healing practitioners i.e., Kabiraj (traditional healers), Mollas and Fakirs (religious healers), and Hakims (plant-based medical practitioners) several factors are responsible for choosing local healers including insolvency, faith, norms of Purdah (veil), economic dependency and lack of decision-making power of women in health care. In addition, the customary reputation, attentive nature of care, good behavior, and lower fees charged by the local healers draw the attention of the rural women.

Background: Cervical cancer is the most common gynaecological cancer and a significant cause of Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs). It is estimated that 85% of cervical cancer cases are in low- and middle-income countries. Kenya became the 16th African country to introduce the HPV vaccine into its routine immunization schedule. The main hindrance was initially the cost, but even as the vaccine has been rolled out free of charge, we still have acceptability and uptake challenges. Objectives: To determine the uptake of the HPV vaccine by 10-year-old school-going girls in Kisumu County and to assess the factors associated with parental acceptability of the HPV vaccine in Kisumu County, using the Health Belief Model. Methods: We conducted a mixed-method analysis of the uptake of the HPV vaccine by 10-year-old school-going girls in Kisumu County and the factors affecting parental acceptability. The study’s first phase was a cross-sectional quantitative study, where secondary data of randomly sampled 384 girls, ten years of age, was collected from the school registry retrospectively between December 2019 and December 2021. A descriptive analysis was conducted. The results were presented in frequency and percentage. 34 parents purposively sampled for the FGDs. Transcripts were analyzed from the four focus groups in rural and urban Kisumu. Results: The average uptake of the HPV vaccine in Kisumu County was (252) 65.63% (n=384). Only (119) 30.98% were fully vaccinated, while 26.82% (103) were partially vaccinated. 34.37% were not vaccinated during the study period. Upon analysis of the qualitative data from the focused group discussion (FGDs), four main themes emerged as regards the HBM: the lack of knowledge and misinformation about Human Papillomavirus, cervical cancer, and the HPV vaccine, the fear of the HPV vaccine side effects, non-vaccine costs like transportation cost and institutional barriers like availability of the vaccine and proximity to a facility offering the vaccine services. Conclusion: The study confirms that the HPV vaccination uptake is low, especially for the two doses. The study findings indicate that many parents and guardians did not possess vital information regarding the HPV vaccine that would enable them to allow their daughters to receive the vaccine. Recommendations: It is, therefore, imperative that policymakers investigate and verify the efficacy of a single dose of the HPV vaccine and shift to one dose, and also employ other modalities of HPV vaccination campaigns to include door-to-door campaigns. Moreover, vital information regarding the causal relationship between the HPV cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine, and the side effects should be part of the disseminated information to the target groups.

Effective land management and sustainable development necessitate an understanding of land usage’s scope and mechanism. This study aims to identify changes in land cover in the Klaja Karst watershed due to urbanization, development, and ongoing population growth, as well as to create projections for the area’s land cover twenty (20) years from the completion of the study. The study created land cover maps spanning 2003 to 2020 to investigate patterns and changes in the area’s land cover. Furthermore, projection maps for 2030 and 2040 were created using a dataset derived from the abovementioned maps. The predicted maps show steady growth of perennial crop cover and built-up areas. The most prominent variables leading to this increase are urbanization, population growth, and overall development. The city’s residents, on the other hand, have relied on the growth of perennial crops to meet their demands and produce sustenance. Conversely, the increase in built-up areas and perennial crops has reduced the coverage of other land types, particularly annual crops, open forests, and grasslands. Based on the information presented above, the researcher devised an action plan that prioritized improved land management, conservation, and utilization. The plan calls for strengthening the implementation of environmental laws and policies, providing farmers with additional farm inputs, financial assistance, and promoting co-management of the study area with neighboring municipalities. Part of the consideration is the formation of a Watershed Management Council for the Klaja Karst Watershed, as well as the possibility of declaring the study area a local conservation area and developing a long-term strategy. In general, the study and its findings represent a significant step forward not only for the city and region but also for a wide range of sectors, particularly land planners and environmentalists who are developing management plans that are economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally sustainable.

The international political system has radically changed in the last three decade. During this era the global political system has witnessed the enfranchisement of more voters across geographical, racial and socio-economic boundaries than ever before. With the growing trend of democracy, voter turnouts keep fluctuating. Since the return of multiparty elections in 1990, Cameroon has been experiencing a downward trend in voter turnout. With voter apathy being on the rise in Cameroon, the 2018 Presidential elections were no different nationally, but it was more glaring in the Anglophone regions with extremely low turnout. The presidential elections coincided with the onset of the Cameroonian civil war in Anglophone Cameroon, with separatist fighters and the Cameroon government forces fighting over the self-determination and political future of Anglophone Cameroon. This study sought to ascertain the link between the Anglophone crisis and the low voter turnout in the Anglophone regions. The study relied on both primary and secondary data sources. Primary data sources will mainly be gotten through telephone interviews and personal observations. Secondary data from books, journal article, newspapers, reports and possible interviews on election issues in Cameroon. Findings show that the Anglophone crisis and separatist threats played a role in low voter turnout, alongside voting age and voter disillusionment. The low voter turnout in the Anglophone regions creates a question of legitimacy of those elections and it is recommended that a resolution of the conflict would help improve the situation of voter apathy in Anglophone Cameroon ahead of the upcoming 2025 Presidential and 2026 Municipal and parliamentary Elections.

Based on the McKinsey 7S Framework, this study was undertaken to assess the effect of Style on post-Merger and Acquisition (M&A) performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The independent variable of the study is Style, operationalized through change communication, post-M&A change management, and post-M&A leadership. Post-M&A integration, the moderating variable, is measured by the degree and rate of integration. This study is anchored on the Three-step change, Resource Based View, and Universalistic Best Practice theories. The Kenyan commercial banking sector has 38 registered commercial banks currently operating in the industry; 29 of which have undergone M&A activities. A sample of 10 banks, involved in M&A activities for a period ranging from six months to five years, was selected. This timeframe recommended by Masoud et al., (2020) is critical for M&As as it allows the assessment of both short-term and medium-term integration outcomes, where initial challenges are addressed and operational synergies start manifesting. Data was collected using both primary and secondary sources. Primary data, analyzed through content and framework analyses provided qualitative insights into integration practices. Secondary data, primarily consisting of financial ratios of bank performance (Return on Assets, Return on Equity, Return on Investment, Operating Profit Margin, and Net Profit Margin) was analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test in SPSS version 28.0. Correlation analysis and inferential statistics were employed to measure the strength of relationships between study variables. The study employed a 95% confidence level with a 5% level of precision, ensuring that the results were robust and could be generalized with minimal error. These levels of precision and confidence enhance the reliability and quality of the research by reducing the likelihood of making incorrect inferences about the broader population. The findings reveal that effective change communication post-M&A significantly enhances employee engagement and reduces resistance, which in turn positively influences overall organizational performance. Change management practices that are structured and inclusive of employee feedback contribute to smoother integration processes, minimizing disruptions to operations and customer service. Leadership style was found to be a critical factor in the success of M&As, with collaborative and change leadership resulting to better post-M&A outcomes. The results further confirmed that the conceptual framework accurately predicted post-M&A performance, with Style having a positive, statistically significant effect. Additionally, post-M&A integration was found to moderate the relationship between Style and post-M&A performance, amplifying the positive outcomes when the integration was well-executed. The study concludes that the style of managing change, communication, and leadership post-M&A is critical in determining the success of commercial banks in Kenya, with a strong emphasis on transparent communication, structured change processes, and adaptive leadership styles. These findings suggest that adopting best practices in these areas can significantly enhance post-M&A performance. To enhance post-M&A performance of commercial banks, this study recommends integration of operations and systems, implementation of robust performance measurement systems, effective communication, leadership, and change management. There is need for future studies on the effects of M&A activities on the risk profile of commercial banks. This could involve examining how changes in the size, diversification, and complexity of the institution following M&A impact its risk exposure and resilience to external shocks.

This research study investigates language teachers’ perspectives on the influence of TechSpeak (or TxtSpk) on second language learning and writing skills among students in the College of Education at Central Mindanao University and Bukidnon State University during the second semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The study aims to 1. identify the common TechSpeak language used by students in academic writing; 2. assess the impact of TechSpeak on students’ second language learning and writing skills; 3. uncover themes and patterns from teachers’ perspectives on TechSpeak. The study involved six language instructors—five females and one male—selected through purposive sampling from both universities. Individual interviews were conducted, focusing on their experiences and observations regarding students’ submissions and feedback. Analysis of the data led to several key themes regarding the impact of TechSpeak. First, TechSpeak affects students’ formal writing, confirming earlier research on the intersection of technology and learning. While students demonstrate an understanding of appropriate TechSpeak usage, its frequent use in formal contexts raises concerns about its potential negative impact on writing skills. The prevalence of TechSpeak, characterized by abbreviations, acronyms, and omissions, suggests an emerging trend that may hinder formal writing capabilities. To mitigate the adverse effects of TechSpeak. educators and parents should promote awareness of the importance of proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation across all forms of communication. Students should be actively encouraged to distinguish between informal and formal writing contexts and adjust their language accordingly. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term impacts of TechSpeak on writing skills and to develop effective strategies for addressing its use within educational settings.

The twenty-first century is characterized by steady advancement in technology, ever increasing need for migration and evolution from the rural and archaic mode of operation to a more digitalized and urban modes. These evolutions in technology, migration and jettisoning of the old ways to embrace the modern ways have led to cultural displacement, loss of the authentic rustic flavours, and alteration of identity. In as much as technological advancement and, perhaps migrations, have led to the loss of the above stated, technology, specially, has aided the recovering, preservation and dissemination of the said African oral traditions to a wider audience and those who, ordinarily, might not have had access to them. Consequently, scholars of African oral traditions have embraced this development in technology and produced works where the cultural and linguistic interactions of the indigenous people are exhibited, thereby promoting intercultural relationships and preserving cultures. This study aims to examine the impact of digitization on African oral traditions, investigation how technological advancements simultaneously displace and preserve cultural heritage. The hybridity approach in use in this study finds out that digital platforms blend traditional and modern forms, creating new elements and challenging essentialized notions of African culture. The study concludes that digitization, while preserving the cultural heritage also threatens it. It was recommended that there should be a critical evaluation of technological impacts on cultural identity and authenticity as well as a community-driven digitization initiatives to ensure cultural ownership and authenticity.

ABSTRACT The problem of environmental pollution and health hazards due to mine waste (tailings) disposal can be managed by selecting suitable locations for their proper disposal. Tailings disposal at the Asanko Gold Mine, Ghana which is our study area is currently run on a 67ha Tailings Management Facility (TMF) catering for the Phase 1 project. This tailings dam should be able to run and contain the tailings produced when Phase 2 begins. Therefore, there is a need to provide alternative sites for the construction of a new Tailings Management Facility that will have a higher capacity and be able to cater for both the Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects. This research combined Geographic Information Systems and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) in the selection of suitable tailings disposal sites. Sites that are selected should meet the environmental requirement set out by the Environmental Protection and other International best practices and further, be of reasonable economic benefit to the mining company. Various factors were considered for the selection of sites, which included Slope, Geology, Hydrology, Land Use, and Infrastructure. With these factors in mind, map layers were obtained and overlain to produce suitability maps for selecting suitable sites. The Analytical Hierarchy Process method was used in generating weights to be assigned to the various criteria in the overlay process. Suitability and Restriction models were created using the ArcGIS model builder and combined to produce a Suitability Index map showing areas of potential sites. Seven potential sites were selected based on a filter made for sites with shape area of at least 70ha to be selected. These selected sites were subjected to further analysis and ranked according to their distance to the current operating processing plant, volume of tailings it can hold ( capacity) and its shape (i.e complexity of the shape and the ease to construct).

The agricultural sector in India is highly susceptible to climatic variability, posing significant risks to farmers’ livelihoods. Traditional crop insurance models have struggled to provide timely and efficient risk mitigation due to delayed payouts, subjective loss assessments, and high administrative overheads. Weather Index-Based Insurance (WII) offers an innovative solution by linking compensation to objective weather indices, eliminating the need for direct loss assessments and reducing administrative costs, thereby facilitating quicker payouts and simplifying the claims process. This study examines the integration of advanced technologies such as crop simulation models, remote sensing, GIS, and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) to enhance the precision and efficiency of WII. Crop simulation models, like APSIM, enable accurate yield forecasting and phenological monitoring, which are essential for calibrating weather indices. Remote sensing and GIS provide real-time, large-scale monitoring capabilities, allowing for the swift detection of weather anomalies and accurate index adjustments. UAVs contribute high-resolution, localized imagery and atmospheric data, further refining the assessment process. In India, where 70% of rural households depend on agriculture and small and marginal farmers constitute 86% of the farming population, the integration of these technologies with WII is crucial. It not only addresses the limitations of traditional insurance products but also enhances the resilience of farmers to climatic risks. This highlights the role of WII, supported by advanced technologies, in transforming agricultural insurance, ensuring timely financial support, and fostering stability in the agricultural economy.

It is imperative to obtain precise and up-to-date information on the area of rice fields, as the yield of rice is a fundamental indicator of national food security. The mapping of rice fields based on water supply is still limited, particularly in Indonesia, which is characterised by ecological and management diversity. The launch of Planetscope imagery, which offers high temporal and spatial resolution, provides the opportunity to map the types of rice fields occupied by people. The objective of this study is to compare the accuracy of land use mapping using pixel-based (maximum likelihood) and object-based (SNIC segmentation) classification using random forest classification in order to generate a rice field map. The results of the object-based classification showed a total accuracy of 92.8% and a kappa coefficient of 0.82. In contrast, the pixel-based maximum likelihood classification showed an accuracy of 74.34% and a low kappa coefficient of 0.43. The mapping of rice field types relies on remote sensing data and field interview data, with an accuracy of 88.05% and 91.09% in planting season 1 and planting season 2, respectively.

... Demand for maize is on the increase in Nigeria, but despite the economic importance of maize, it has not been produced to meet food and industrial needs of the country, and this could be attributed to low productivity due to lack of improved technologies for maize production [6]. One of the major limitations to maize production in Nigeria is the declining in soil fertility which is exacerbated by the high cost and sometimes unavailability of fertilizer [13] and poor selection of arable land and soil suitability for maize production [4]. ...

Achieving optimum yield of maize can meaningfully be supported by land suitability analysis in order to guarantee self-sufficiency for future production optimization. This study aimed to assess and map land suita-bility for maize production in Kuje Area Council, Abuja through analysis of parameters such as Landuse and landcover (LULC) classification, slope, elevation, temperature, soil reaction, soil texture, nitrogen, phospho-rus and potassium using Geospatial Techniques. The objectives of the study are: (a) to identify and map vari-ous factors that determine the suitability of land for maize production in Kuje Area Council, (b) to examine the influence of the identified factors on maize production in the study area and, (c) to produce suitability map for maize production in the study area. Chemical elements influencing soil properties such as Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, soil texture and pH, and climate data were used to validate Land suitability analysis for maize production. Time series analysis was carried out to determine LULC classes as a determinant of land suitability for maize production using maximum likelihood algorithm of supervised classification in ArcGIS 10.8 software. Time series data set of Landsat and Shuttle Radar Topographic Mapping (SRTM), and soil data were used to generated LULC classes, slope and aspect, and soil mapping units in the study area. Soil characteristic was determined for suitability for maize farming in the study area using multi-criteria analysis of soil, geological composition, slope and aspect, precipitation, Land surface temperature and evapo-transpiration. Suitability was categorized into highly, moderately and low categories based on Food and Agri-cultural Organisation of the United Nation (FAO) classification, using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique. The study identified factors such as LULC classes, slope, elevation, temperature, soil reaction, soil texture, nitrogen, and phosphorus and potassium contents to be determinants of maize production. A suitabil-ity map for maize farming was produce for the study. The study revealed that LULC has the highest percent-age of 0.304 (30.4%), while elevation has the lowest percentage of 0.043 (4.3%). The consistency ratio (CR) value was determined to be zero (0). Land suitability for maize production therefore showed that about 58% of the area is moderately suitable for maize production, 39% low suitable, why only 3% of the study area is less suitable for maize production. Location such as Leka, Tugba, Kabi, Shaji, Kujekwa are marginally suita-ble for cultivating maize. While Chukwuku, Gwagwalada, Pegi, and Kuje town are Less suitable areas for maize production due to the fact that they are located in built-up areas. Location within the study area with less than 3% is not suitable for maize production because of poor soil nutrient. Therefore, the study recom-mended soil conservation by the application of organic fertilizer, mulching and leguminous cover crops to enhance soil quality. The study has in store necessary information that farmers need for maize farming in the study area

The aim of this research project is the investigation of the forgotten landscape of transhumance in mainland Greece, focusing on areas that have been abandoned by modern society and their historical significance. The goal is to make these lands functional again by preserving their cultural heritage and developing a sustainable community that meets the needs of people, livestock, and the environment. The investigation employs a dual approach: examining transhumance as a cultural and natural practice while analyzing vernacular architecture to preserve collective memory. This involves extensive historical research and a simultaneous analysis of spatial, social, symbolic, and architectural elements. This study identifies points of convergence between cultural practices and architectural heritage, applying these insights to contemporary redevelopment scenarios. Findings reveal a significant interplay between transhumance practices and the region’s anonymous architecture. Key characteristics of the landscape and its spatial identity are documented, providing insights into effective preservation and redevelopment strategies. Specific case studies validate these strategies, demonstrating their relevance to current and future efforts. This study concludes that understanding the historical context and spatial identity of transhumance landscapes is crucial for sustainable redevelopment. By preserving cultural practices and architectural heritage, this project provides a framework for revitalizing these landscapes, ensuring a balanced coexistence of people, livestock, and the environment.

The Impact of Tourism Development on Landscape Structure in South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali. South Kuta District is one of the sub-districts in Badung Regency, Bali, which is located in a coastal area and is a tourism center. Its presence in a coastal area makes this subdistrict rich (ecosystem services) and vulnerable (change, damage and loss) simultaneously. As a tourism center, development in South Kuta District increases from year to year, especially in the tourist accommodation sector. This development development causes changes in the landscape structure. This research aims to analyze changes in landscape structure that occur and analyze the influence of tourism aspects on changes in landscape structure. The methods used in this research are spatial analysis, binary logistic regression analysis and SBE analysis. Spatial analysis is used to analyze landscape structure (patches) and its changes using Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery for 2010 and Landsat 8 OLI imagery for 2022. Binary logistic regression analysis to analyze the influence of tourism aspects on changes in landscape structure. The tourism aspect used is tourist accommodation data (lodging, restaurants, banking and health centers). Scenic Beauty Estimation (SBE) analysis is used as an assessment of areas experiencing changes in landscape structure. The urgency of this research is to prevent or minimize the impact of ecological damage from tourism development, especially the decline in environmental and visual quality due to changes in landscape structure that occur in South Kuta District.

Forests contribute to vital environmental and ecosystem processes like climate variation, biogeochemical cycle, hydrological cycle and soil conservation. The livelihood many people depends on food and raw materials produced from forests. A huge aerial extent of forests is undergoing degradation, depletion and loss of productivity due to natural and human activities such as the increase of human and bovine population pressures and non-sustainable developmental activities in forest areas. Therefore, spatial and temporal data on the quality, area and spatial variability of forests are vital for the sustainable management of forests. Geospatial technology consists of aeial and satellite remote sensing (RS), geographic information system (GIS) and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) offer cost-effective, rapid and reliable tools for inventory, change analysis and scientific management of forests compared to traditional time-consuming ground-based forest management techniques. The initial sections of this chapter document the definition, principles, components and techniques of visual and digital interpretation and analysis of aerospace RS, GIS and GNSS (e.g. GPS, global positioning system). The section dealing with applications of geospatial technology in forestry covers approaches and methodologies of use of RS, GIS and GPS in various areas of forestry. First, the details of techniques and methods of applications of aerial RS using black and white and colour photographs, and digital multi-spectral data in various areas of forestry such as forest mapping, inventory and management are discussed. The principles and both visual and digital analysis approaches using satellite data from different optical sensors in several areas of forestry such as forest type mapping, crown canopy density mapping, forest biomass estimation and modelling, forest fire (active fire detection and burnt area and burnt severity assessment), forest damage by diseases and insects, etc. are discussed. GIS and GPS applications deal with principles and integrated analysis methods using different kinds of geospatial data in various areas of forestry, namely forest working plan preparation and revision, forest fire management (fire risk zonation, fire growth simulation and fire information system), wildlife habitat evaluation, Indian biodiversity information system (BIS) and Indian Bio-resources Information Network (IBIN) are included. Applications of advanced RS techniques, namely microwave, hyperspectral and Lidar (light detection and ranging) in forestry are also covered in this chapter. Conclusions and lessons learnt are included in the end section of the chapter.

Brazil's National Environmental Information System (SINIMA), composed of entities such as the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), IBAMA, ICMBIO, ANA, JBRJ, and SFB, generates a wealth of environmental data through diverse monitoring efforts. Despite this wealth of information, the current decentralized structure limits the capacity to address complex, cross-cutting environmental issues. For instance, understanding the connection between water shortages in São Paulo and deforestation in the Amazon requires integrated analysis beyond the scope of individual agencies. In accordance with MMA Ordinance 365 of November 27, 2015, this article analyzes key federal initiatives related to environmental data production and proposes the establishment of a National Environmental Monitoring Center to foster data integration and facilitate more holistic environmental analysis.
