Notes on recent migrations of Urania fulgens (Walker, 1854) in Costa Rica (Lepidoptera: Uraniidae)
Abstract
Two recent migrations of Urania fulgens (Walker, 1854) (Lepidoptera: Uraniidae) in Costa Rica are reported. Additional information about the ecology and the distribution of this species is also given.

Es werden Anmerkungen zur Biologie und zur Ökologie von Urania fulgens (Walker, 1854) in Costa Rica, Zentralamerika gemacht. Das Migrationsverhalten und Beziehungen zwischen Urania fulgens (Wlk.) und Raupenfutterpflanzen - insbesondere ihrer Toxizität - werden diskutiert.
Nach einleitenden Bemerkungen zur Biologie, zur Verbreitung und zum Migrationsverhalten von Urania fulgens WALKER, 1854 wird über eine Migration berichtet, die im August und September 2005 im zentralen Hochland von Costa Rica beobachtet werden konnte.
Observations on U. fulgens behavior were done in Costa Rica during a mass migration in 2005; notes on the behavior of a non-migratory population are also documented. Tapantí National Park seems to be a possible destiny for the migrating butterflies. A new possible larval food plant is recorded.
