Clepsis trifasciata sp. n. with notes on some Lepidoptera Tortricidae from Kirgizstan

Authors:

Abstract and Figures

A new species of tortricid moth, Clepsis trifasciata sp. n., from Kadzhi- Sai, Issik-Kul province (Kirgizstan) is described. Externally the new species is characterised by its wing pattern, whilst the male genitalia is close to Clepsis violacea Razowski, 1966, which is widely distributed in the Mongolian steppe region, and to Clepsis laetitiae Soria, 1997, from Aranjuez (Central Spain). Moreover, some notes on some interesting tortricid moths which were collected in the mountainous localities of Kirgizstan are reported.

INTRODUCTION
In the present paper rare and interesting Tortricidae (Lepidoptera) are reported as
found in amongst material collected in the mountainous localities of Kirgizstan, taken
in 2000, by Sergei V. Churkin (Moscow, Russia), moreover, Clepsis trifasciata sp. n.
is described. Externally, the new species is characterized by the typical wing coloration
in the fasciae; the genitalia of C. trifasciatais similar to that of C. violaceaRazowski,
1966, which is widely distributed in the Mongolian steppe region, and to C. laetitiae
from Aranjuez, Central Spain (Razowski, 1979 and 2002; Soria, 1997).
Amongst other tortricids of particular interest were: Cochylimorpha pirizanica Ra-
zowski, 1963, Cochylimorpha woliniana (Schleich, 1868), Eana samarcandae Razow-

We reconstructed a preliminary phylogeny for the economically important tribe Archipini (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae: Tortricinae) based on 135 exemplar species (including four outgroups) and a combined analyses of 28S rDNA and COI DNA using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian analyses. A summary tree was produced as the majority rule consensus tree by first assembling all clades that were present in more than 50% of analyses. Based on the results of the analyses, several taxonomic changes are suggested. After mapping secondary sexual characters (SSCs), host plant breadth, and geographic distribution onto the phylogeny, we examined correspondences among these traits using two-by-two χ2 tests and ancestral character state reconstructions. Absence of SSCs was associated with decreased host plant breadth and colonization of the New World, but was not significantly associated with the presence of other SSCs. There is a strong likelihood of an Australasian origin for Archipini. We propose the synonymy of Archepandemis Mutuura with Pandemis Hübner (new synonymy); the synonymy of Cudonigera Obraztsov & Powell with Choristoneura Lederer (new synonymy); and elevation of Anaphelia Razowski, Sacaphelia Razowski, and Zelotherses Lederer to genera from subgenera of Aphelia Hübner (revised status). Epiphyas Turner, may be subordinate within Clepsis Guenée, but further study is needed to confirm this.
... The present paper provides new data on the distribution of some Tortricidae (total number of species 69). Among other tortricids of particular interest were: Phtheochroa kenneli (Obraztsov), Cochylimorpha halophilana (Christoph), C. alternana (Stephens), C. emiliana (Kennel), C. pirizanica (Razowski), and C. woliniana (Schleich), Phalonidia contractana (Zeller), Agapeta zoegana (Linnaeus), Eugnosta lathoniana (Hübner), Cochylidia rupicola (Curtis) and C. moguntiana (Rössler), Eana samarcandae (Razowski), Cnephasia cupressivorana (Staudinger) and C. longana (Haworth), Clepsis moeschleriana (Wocke) and C. praeclarana (Kennel), Endothenia hebesana (Walker), Celypha ermolenkoi Kostyuk, Pelochrista griseolana (Zeller) and P. medullana (Staudinger), Pammene fasciana (Linnaeus) (Razowski, 1979(Razowski, , 2002(Razowski, , 2003(Razowski, and 2009Kuznetsov, 1989;Brown, 2005;Alipanah, 2009;Trematerra, 2010a and2010b (Kuznetsov, 1975) ...

These are as follows; Papilionidae, Pieridae, Argynnidae, Libytheidae, Satyridae, Danaidae, Riodinidae, Lycaenidae, and Hesperiidae. Totally 1142 moth species are recorded in Pakistan. Their families are as follows; Adelidae, Aganaidae, Arctiidae, Autostichidae, Bombycidae, Brachodidae, Brahmaeidae, Carposinidae, Coleophoridae, Cosmopterigidae, Cossidae, Ctenuchidae, Drepanidae, Endromidae, Epermeniidae, Eriocottidae, Ethmiidae, Eupterotidae, Gelechiidae, Geometridae, Gracillariidae, Lasiocampidae, Lecithoceridae, Limacodidae, Lymantriidae, Momphidae, Noctuidae, Notodontidae, Psychidae, Pterophoridae, Pyralidae, Saturniidae, Scythridae, Sesiidae, Sphingidae, Stathmopodidae, Stenomidae, Thaumetopoeidae, Thyatiridae, Tineidae, Tortricidae, Yponomeutidae, Zygaenidae. In this study, 862 publications on the Lepidoptera of Pakistan are evaluated from the taxonomical, faunistical, ecological standpoints, and listed as author index. Besides, the material of the Lepidoptera preserved in the Cesa collection are partly examined. The images of the adults of the collection, as well as the images of the male genitalia in the archive are added to some species.
