The common architecture in these discovery databases is that they gather information from publishers, aggregators, and open access repositories. The discovery interface searches both the library catalog and a large chunk of the library's online collections. Notess highlights that with discovery, various relevance factors that Google uses to attempt to deliver relevant results on a majority of its searches are constantly being re-examined and changed in an ongoing effort to achieve better results.
