Abstract.
Additional, more precise locality data are provided for the species described by Wolfgang K. Weyrauch from
South America. Most of the holotypes in the Tucumán museum pertaining to the Orthalicoidea are illustrated. Additionally, a
list is provided of new species described by various authors and based on Weyrauch’s material, illustrating the importance of

Introduction
Wolfgang K. Weyrauch worked for many years in Peru and Argentina. He collected many shells,
especially in central and northern Peru; based on his collection he described 197 new taxa, which have been
listed by B
ARBOSA
et al. (2008). However, the type localities mentioned in that paper only give “C. Peru”, etc.,
and are too vague to be useful for further references. During revisionary work I found that a more precise
(geo)reference to these localities is often needed to interprete the status of these taxa. The following list is
therefore an addition to the publication mentioned; only those (164) taxa are herein mentioned for which
Weyrauch published type localities (thus excluding new names and taxa above the species level). A best guess
has been added in notes (bold numbers in parenthesis; see last section) whenever I was unable to locate the type
locality with certainty, e.g. when Weyrauch used local names for places that are not included in the gazetteers
used. The localities as given by Weyrauch are all translated into English. Additonally, most of the holotypes of
the Orthalicoidea (sensu B
REURE
& R
OMERO
, in press) present in the collection of the Tucumán museum are
illustrated (referred to by a figure number in parenthesis at the end of the data for the taxon); these species were
classified with the families Amphibulimidae and Orthalicidae by B
ARBOSA
et al. (2008). For the types in the
Senckenberg collection, see N
EUBERT
& J
ANSSEN
(2004).
The Weyrauch collection remains an important source of material for our understanding of Neotropical
snails, especially species from Peru, as is shown by the section listing 55 (sub)species based on his material but
described by others, and other papers which made use of his collection (e.g., P

world. Some of this material has been revised (B

museum additional, unpublished material has been found which awaits a further, critical review.

Notes
(1) Exact locality not known, but Cerro Pichita is located at 11°06'22" S 075°26'30" W; the mine is possibly
about 7.5 km W San Ramón (as the crow flies).
(2) Photograph failed.
(3) Given the elevation, the location is supposed to be at the coordinates presented here; the locality is
12.4 km (as the crow flies) NNE Tingo Maria.
(4) This is probably meant as ca. 25 km NE Cutervo by road; cf. W
EYRAUCH
1976a: 348.
(5) This locality may be around 10°33' S 076°15' W.
(6) Given the elevation, Hacienda Cochambul may be around 07°12' S 078°23' W.
(7) There is no such named locality in the GNS gazetteer. Given the altitude estimated, it could be around
06°18' S 078°58' W.
(8) There is no such named locality in the GNS gazetteer; however in the region indicated, Curicancha as a
locality is known. Given the altitude estimated, it could be around 11°39' S 075°52' W.
(9) Given the elevation, this locality is probably around 11°42'34" S 076°35'30" W.
(10) The reference by Weyrauch as “16 km N Tembladera” seems erroneous, as there is no place called
Quinden at 600-700 m in this area. Following the road from Tembladera to Cajamarca, there is a
location Quinden in the Río Jetequepeque valley around 07°10' S 079°00' W at ca. 630 m; this is
likely the type locality.
(11) See D
ELHEY
et al., 2010 for details on the locality.
(12) At the indicated locality, elevations of 450-500 m prevail.
(13) Sotopampa and Huamboyacu do not appear in the GNS gazetteer. The places called (La) Colmena in
northern Peru do not agree with the altitude given by Weyrauch. There could have been a misspelling
for Sosopampa (Dept. Lambayeque) or Satapampa (twice in Dept. La Libertad), but none of the places
is near the given altitude. Hence the precise locality where this species was found remains unclear.
(14) Not Drymaeus pilsbry Zetek, 1934; renamed Mesembrinus (Ornatimormus) henrypilsbryi in
W
EYRAUCH
, 1958: 134.
(15) Not Epiphragmophora semiclausa Hylton Scott, 1951; renamed E. diluta semiaperta in W
EYRAUCH
,
1964a: 169.
(16) Places of this name have not been found in the gazetteer; the name could either refer to Edo. Goiás,
Planaltino de Goiás (15°29'04" S 047°38'20" W), or Distrito Federal, Planaltino (15°37'02" S
047°40'00" W). These places are only 15 km apart.

Type material of some South American species in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, belonging to different families is documented. It includes 16 species: Bulimus cuneus L. Pfeiffer, 1854, Bulimus proteus Broderip, 1832, Bulimus scalarioides L. Pfeiffer, 1867, Bulimus similaris J. Moricand, 1856, Andinia (Ehrmanniella) dedicata Weyrauch & Zilch, 1954, Helix hettneriana E. von Martens, 1897, Eurycampta hidalgonis Döring, 1877, Helix aequatoris L. Pfeiffer, 1860, Helix bituberculata L. Pfeiffer, 1853, Helix bourcieri L. Pfeiffer, 1853, Helix neogranadensis L. Pfeiffer, 1845, Cyclostoma (Cyclophorus) bourcieri L. Pfeiffer, 1854, and Helix platygyra Albers, 1857. The concept of the “salvation” of type material is explained.
... In addition, it is worthwhile noting that six specimen lots from Weyrauch were marked as paratypes on the original labels, but they were later found not to be type specimens. Their labels contain manuscript names of subspecies that were unpublished before his sudden death in 1970 (see also Breure 2012). These include the following specimen lots: AM MA73230, MA37406, MA73222, MA73509, MA106718 and MA106719. ...

The catalogued collection of South American terrestrial gastropods, including the Caribbean ABC islands and Trinidad & Tobago, of the Auckland War Memorial Museum (AM), New Zealand, is discussed here. In total, 264 specimen lots from South America were found in the AM collection, including eight type lots. Twelve of the specimens represent new geographic distribution data, including the first known precise locality for the species Bostryx luridus (L. Pfeiffer, 1863) and potentially for Drymaeus cf. waldoschmidti Parodiz, 1962 as well. The specimens of Lopesianus crenulatus Weyrauch, 1967 allowed for the revision of the monospecific genus Lopesianus Weyrauch, 1958, which is herein considered valid in the family Simpulopsidae.

Two female specimens of the Neotropical genus Ophionthus Bernhauer were found during museum collection surveys, representing different species of the genus. These species are Ophionthus serpentinus Bernhauer, 1908 and O. asenjoi sp. nov. The genus Ophionthus was monotypic until the present study and only known from a single male specimen from Central Peru. The genus is redescribed with the inclusion of female characters from both the type species and the new species here proposed. Additionally, the systematic position of Ophionthus within the Neotropical lineage of Philonthina and its geographical distribution in Peru are reassessed. Descriptions, diagnoses, illustrations, pictures, a cladogram, and a distribution map are provided.

With this study, we continue the revision of the genera of Scolodontidae (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora), focusing on the taxa with tightly coiled, multiwhorled shells that often bear apertural and/or internal barriers. We analysed type material from all type species and studied some misclassified Charopidae and Streptaxidae. We provide redescriptions and better circumscription of the following Scolodontid taxa: Entodina Ancey, 1887, Systrophia L. Pfeiffer, 1855, and Zilchistrophia Weyrauch, 1960. Martinella Jousseaume, 1887 is transferred from Streptaxidae to Scolodontidae, and the extinct Patagocharopa Miquel & P.E. Rodriguez, 2016 is transferred from Charopidae; Patagocharopa, dating from the Miocene, represents the earliest fossil record of the family. Keranella gen. nov. and Smenodonta gen. nov. are erected. The genera Polygyratia J.E. Gray, 1847 and Ridleyconcha Christensen, 2020, despite recently revised, are also included here for comparison with the other taxa.

This paper investigates Bostryx species from Peru, which show variation in shells shape and are partly carinated, using both ecological and molecular data. The study area is situated in a valley at the western side of the Andes, with a total length of 25 km and an altitudinal range of almost 1,140 m, but focuses on two localities: El Infernillo at ca. 3,350 m and Tambo de Viso at ca. 2,700 m. The morphological variation of the species presents a rather complex picture that cannot completely be resolved by ecological data alone. Molecular data points to three taxa, two of which are variable in shell shape and each restricted to one of the localities mentioned; the third taxon is constant in shell shape and occurs over a large range of the study area. The species originally described as Bostryx multiconspectus Breure, 2008 and B. primigenius Breure, 2008 are redefined as a result.

This comprehensive checklist of non-marine molluscs from the mainland of Ecuador pre- sents data on 331 species (of which 5 are considered as nomen dubium), compiled from the literature, a subset of museum databases, and some verified observations from the internet. For all taxa the original reference is given and photographs of type specimens are provided if these could be located and obtained from museums. Where these were not available the original figure(s) have been reproduced. In the introduction, a brief history of research in Ecuador (including the Galápagos archipelago) is presented. This checklist may serve as a baseline document for further research. It is not intended to be a revision- ary work, although we have recognised the following new synonyms: Neritina intermedia (var. β) minima K. Miller, 1879 = Clypeolum latissimum (Broderip, 1833); Aperostoma (Aperostoma) olivaceum Bartsch & Morrison, 1942 = Incidostoma quitense (L. Pfeiffer, 1852); Hemisinus pazi Tryon, 1866 = Hemisinus guayaquilensis (Petit de la Saussaye, 1853); Bulimus cuneus L. Pfeiffer, 1854 = Protobeliscus fairmaireanus (Petit de la Saus- saye, 1853); Synapterpes (Zoniferella) riveti Germain, 1907 = Mesembrinus vesperus Jousseaume, 1887 = Zoniferella albobalteata (Dunker, 1882); Synapterpes bicingulatus Fulton, 1908 = Zoniferella bizonalis (Germain, 1907); Thaumastus thompsonoides Ober- wimmer, 1931 = Kara thompsonii (L. Pfeiffer, 1845). The need for further field work is illustrated by the fact that for 60 species, only imprecise localities are known, while for 168 species no modern (i.e. last 50 years) records are available. There are 179 species considered as endemics for the Ecuadorian malacofauna. For both the terrestrial and fresh- water species the ecoregions where they occur are indicated where possible.

Phylogenetic relationships of Orthalicoidea, a highly diverse and dominant element in the Neotropics, were studied using nuclear and mitochondrial DNA sequences (ITS2/28S, CO1, H3). Specimens of various locations from the Southern Hemisphere (South America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands) were analysed (74 taxa, representing 30 genera). Our results support previously presented hypotheses, but also give surprises in terms of unexpected topologies. Phylogenetic trees were estimated using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference, and compared with traditional classifications. Phylogenetic estimations using three loci gave a strong support for monophyly of Orthalicoidea, as well as for some clades within this group (Bulimulidae, Bothriembryontidae, Orthalicidae, Amphibulimulidae), but not for others (Odontostomidae and Megaspiridae). In the resulting revision of the classification scheme of the Orthalicoidea, the tribe Simpulopsini is raised to family rank. One new subfamily is recognized, the Bostrycinae. The family Bulimulidae Tryon 1867 is retained under ICZN Art. 35.5, despite the senior synonymy of Peltellinae Gray 1855. Our analysis supports an origin of the Orthalicoidea in South America, with subsequent radiations into other parts of the Neotropics and the Southern Hemisphere. The hypothesis that the distribution on the southern continents may be explained by vicariance due to break-up of Gondwana is only partially supported by divergence time analysis using fossil calibrations. Ancestral area reconstruction suggests various independent dispersals out of South America into Central America and the West Indies, and possibly two independent dispersals to explain the remaining relations between groups of taxa on the southern continents. Divergence time analysis further shows that the major diversification of extant taxa within the superfamily may have started around the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary.

The genus Spixia (Pilsbry & Vanatta, 1898) is endemic from southern South America. Information about this group is scarce, particularly referring to its anatomy and shell ultrastructure. According to current classification the Spixia pyriformis complex includes the following species, S. doellojuradoi (Parodiz 1941), S. martensii (Doering 1874), S. pyriformis (Pilsbry 1901) and S. tucumanensis (Parodiz 1941). In the present study a complete redescription of the species component of this complex, as well as new information on shell ultrastructure and anatomy of the different organ systems is provided. The Spixia pyriformis complex has a pyriform-subpyriform shell shape that distinguishes it from the rest of the species of the genus. Three of the four species studied have a similar periostracum structure consisting of spiral striae and triangular lamellae. Radular morphology is similar in all species. Jaw structure is diagnostic for each species. The inner morphology of the penis is divided into five areas marked by differential pattern of sculpture. Four new anatomical characters, the presence of a pallial gland in the distal portion of the pulmonary roof, the presence of a penial gland in the penial complex, the position of the insertion of the penial retractor muscle in either penial area I or area II and the sculpture of penis inner wall, are identified as the most informative for species diagnosis.

I. INTRODUCTION Up to the moment more than one hundred species and subspecies of Neniinae are known from Central and South America. They are incorporated into 22 genera and subgenera, almost exclusively based on characters of the shells. Only little is known of the anatomy of the animals (Binney, 1871; Binney & Bland, 1871; Baker, 1961; Hesse, 1925; Scott, 1954; Loosjes, 1957; Pilsbry, 1926; Polinski, 1922; Zilch, 1953, 1959). These authors described the radula and/or the genital organs of one or several species. Thus from eleven species the radula has been described and from five the genital apparatus. By the courtesy of Prof. Dr. W. Weyrauch we were able to study the anatomical features of a relatively large number (38) of Peruvian and Argentine Neniinae. We wish to express our most cordial thanks to him for his generosity and also to Dr. B. Hubendick, who provided us with a sample of Nenia tridens (Chemnitz) from Puerto Rico. In Thiele's (1929/31) classification the American Neniinae are grouped into three genera, Nenia, Peruinia and Temesa, based on characters of the shells and of the radula. It turned out impossible to fit the information we found, into this system as it indicates the presence of many more units. In this survey we will follow Zilch's (1960) classification, which enumerates a number of genera and subgenera, based on conchological characters, although the order will be altered according to the results obtained (conf. chapter IV). Thus conchological data of the genera or subgenera involved have to be studied in Zilch (1960), or eventually in Thiele (1929/31).

Some time ago Prof. Dr. W. Weyrauch at Lima, Peru, sent to me specimens of a species of the subfamily Neniinae that proved to be new to science. Already about 70 species of the subfamily have become known from Peru, for an important part discovered by Prof. Weyrauch himself. Andinia (Ehrmanniella) flammulata spec. nov. (Figs. 1, 2) Diagnosis. A small, rather fusiform species of the subgenus Ehrmanniella Zilch. The decollated shell is provided with rather irregular fine white striae. Especially below the suture these striae are thickened, strikingly white, and arranged in groups of about 5 to 15 on low nodules. These nodules alternate with brown, quite smooth, malleated patches. At some distance it looks like small white and brown areas running obliquely over the surface of the shell below the suture. Lunella more or less interrupted below the middle. The principal plica is only 1/4 whorl long. The receptaculum seminis and its duct unto the junction with the diverticulum are as long as the diverticulum itself. Description. The shell is decollate, somewhat fusiform, moderately strong, with rather convex whorls of which the penultimate is broadest. Whorls of the decollate shell 4 to 7; some shed tops (juvenile shells) with straight outlines consist of about 10 whorls; sculptured with low, but rather large nodules (which can be taken as corresponding with the upper parts of the obliquely running ribs of Polinski's Nenia wagneri1)) below the suture, provided with groups of about 5-15 clear white striae, between these nodules there are brown smooth patches, often running obliquely below the nodules; 1) „breite, niedrige, stumpfe und wulstartige Rippen, welche von links oben nach rechts unten verlaufen". the middle and lower parts of each whorl are usually rather irregularly

In one specimen of Drymaeus canaliculatus (PFEIFFER, 1845) a spermatophore was observed in the phallus complex. The structure of the spermatophore is described using light microscopy observations and histological methods. A hypothesis is presented describing the formation of spermatophores in the epiphallus and flagellum The process of spermatophore-formation is initiated in the most distal part of the epiphallus and the proximal part of the flagellum.

Plagiodontes weyrauchi sp. nov. is among the smallest species in the genus Plagiodontes (Doering, 1877). Statistical multivariate analyses confirmed its distinctiveness from other species, mostly because of its high number of whorls (8–9.75), relatively small width, and low proportions of last whorl and aperture length to shell length; multivariate discriminant analysis applied to this species and its most similar relative, P. multiplicatus parvus, correctly identified 100% of specimens. Pallial and genital anatomy supports P. weyrauchi as a different species, mainly because of the position of the ureteric pore, the small general size of the genital system, the presence of an accessory lobe alongside the verge, and the vaginal internal structure. Internal anatomy of four other small-sized taxa in the genus was studied. Two of them have a verge with no accessory lobe [P. dentatus (Wood, 1828) and P. patagonicus (d'Orbigny, 1835)], while the remaining two have an accessory lobe with different characteristics [P. rocae Doering, 1881 and P. multiplicatus parvus (Hylton-Scott, 19528. Hylton-Scott , M I . 1952. Nuevos moluscos terrestres del norte argentino. Acta Zool Lilloana., 10: 5–29. View all references)]. Internal structure of the vagina also shows specific differences among Plagiodontes species; their phylogenetic significance will be further investigated.
