A novel storage display, the EL (electroluminescent) CRT, is described in theory and in operation. Data on the construction and performance of the device is discussed, and methods of obtaining selective erase, nondestructive electrical readout, and light-writing input are reported. In addition, descriptions of the peripheral electronics required for operation and of the power efficiencies
