Abstract

My main argument in this conference is that academic writing is an empowering skill that needs to be taught if we want our learners to be critical and to think independently. This requires that linguists and discourse analysts focus their research on the language of the disciplines in order to derive the tendencies and linguistic and discursive characteristics of the different discourse communities. This work must precede any teaching method for developing academic writing.
