Urban Heterology: Dresden and the Dialectics of Post-Traumatic History

In this work, I study the history of Dresden and its various imaginaries, constructed or not. I proposes an approach that I call Urban Heterology as a way to frame this complex history. [Show full abstract] to frame ‘urban history’ is something that transcends conventional notions of what a city is and even what its history is. The shifting landscape of street names; billboards that announce certain intentions; the erased or moved monuments; the preservation and purposeful destruction of sites; and even popular perceptions are all part of the story. I try to integrate my take on the history of Dresden with the call for a related art practice that functions within the heterological framework.

The film narrates the mysterious disappearance of a subway train along the last addition to its underground network: the “línea perimetral.” In search for answers, a topologist named Daniel ... [Show full abstract] Pratt initiates an allegorical journey into Moebius, a subway trajectory that is timeless but includes all times. This article explores the role of Moebius' subway as a metaphor to understand the urban. Drawing from Buenos Aires' urban history this filmic analysis ties the Subte to Buenos Aires' processes of capital accumulation and unveils the fissures of its modern spaces.

The paper examines the experience of Connecticut's urban centers over the past century with an eye toward informing public policy. An in-depth qualitative discussion describes the rise and characteristics of urbanism, and then its unraveling. Linear regression analysis then quantifies the impact of various contributory factors on urban economic health in Connecticut cities since 1980. The ... However, despite the fact that the vast majority of these urban projects, some new and others inherited, were barely consolidated, it is interesting to find out about them as they are an example of the new social objectives of this republican/socialist corporation, because they form part of our most recent urban history and, in addition, because they are an example of the efforts of a generation that tried to change too many things too fast. This article is a small sample of some of these actions and of some of the people behind them.
