Code Mixing As Woman Identity: A Case on Instagram Captions of Influencer

[Show full abstract] accompany the Influencers with the most people love their photos from Indonesia. The data focuse on Indonesian clauses or sentence mixed by English language. The result of study demonstrates that code mixing in the captions is the woman language features; empty adjective, special color terms, hashtags, polite form and sweet clossing, used by women but commonly avoided by men. In this case, those features as a certain group with distinctive language features. Internal and external factors determine the process of certain language features to be a marker of the group as well.

While access to higher education has increased globally, student retention has become a major challenge. This book analyses various aspects of the learning pathways of black students from a range of disciplinary backgrounds at a relatively elite, English-medium, historically white South African university. The students are part of a generation of young black people who have grown up in the new ... [Show full abstract] South Africa and are gaining access to higher education in unprecedented numbers. Based on two longitudinal case studies, Negotiating Learning and Identity in Higher Education makes a contribution to the debates about how to facilitate access and graduation of working-class students. The longitudinal perspective enabled the students participating in the research to reflect on their transition to university and the stumbling blocks they encountered in their senior years. The contributors show that the school-to-university transition is not linear or universal. Students had to negotiate multiple transitions at various times and both resist and absorb institutional, disciplinary and home discourses. The book describes and analyses the students' ambivalence as they straddle often conflicting discourses within their disciplines; within the institution; between home and the institution; and as they occupy multiple subject positions that are related to the boundaries of place and time. Each chapter also describes the ways in which the institution supports and/or hinders students' progress, explores the implications of its findings for models of support and addresses the issue of what constitutes meaningful access to institutional and disciplinary discourses

CONTEXTUAL FACTORS RELATED TO CAREGIVER IDENTITY DISCREPANCY IN EMERGING ADULT CAREGIVERS

Approximately 12-18% of unpaid family caregivers to older adults in the U.S. are 18-25 years old, yet minimal research focuses on this subgroup of caregivers (Levine, 2005). Because caregiver identity theory postulates that the extent to which informal caregivers integrate their caregiving roles and duties into their identity may relate to caregiver distress (Montgomery & Kosloski, 2012), ... [Show full abstract] contextual factors related to higher reported caregiver identity discrepancy should be assessed. In a sample of 135 emerging adult informal caregivers, the current study compared caregiver identity discrepancy across two factors: level of caregiving responsibility and caregiver gender. Caregiving responsibility had four groups: (1) primary with minimal help (n=54), primary but receiving some help (n=51), secondary (n=18), or shared (n=12). Caregiver identity discrepancy was measured using the five subscales of the Family Caregiver Identity Scale (Eifert et al., 2019). Caregiver identity discrepancy differed significantly by caregiving responsibility (p<.001) and gender (p=.046). Emerging adult caregivers identifying as women reported statistically more caregiver identity discrepancy in family obligation (p=.003) and master identity (p=.036) domains than men. Caregiving responsibility showed statistically significant differences in role engulfment (p<.001), loss of shared identity (p<.001), family obligation (p=.013), and master identity (p=.010) domains of identity discrepancy. Emerging adult caregivers identifying as the primary caregiver with minimal help from others reported significantly more identity discrepancy than all other groups across subscales. These results demonstrate that young caregivers who have little support in task responsibilities and identify as a woman may be at particular risk for experiencing caregiver identity discrepancy.

This study looks at how Facebook as a medium of political communication is used well by women legislators in constructing their identity as the representatives of people. Facebook enables female legislators to compose personal messages and spread mass ... [Show full abstract] messages quickly to reach the wider audience. It provides opportunities for Facebook users to think, behave, or act, without any significant control, except their own self-awareness. If in everyday life women politicians are bound by many values and rules in society, then how do social users see and construct themselves on Facebook? This research used the qualitative method applying case study approach. Data were collected through in deep inter-views, observations and literature studies. Research subjects are female legislators of Surabaya city who have the characteristics of Facebook as well as active users, understand the problems, and can be trusted. The results showed that female legislators had different motive in using Facebook before and after being elected as a woman legislator. The factors that distinguish are: the motive to be a female politician and the encouragement of the political party. The lack of female legislators in Surabaya City that make Facebook as a medium of politic, but use it as a medium of communication, medium of existence, medium of self-image. This implies on the lack of women legislators in realizing the importance of creating and keeping identity well as representatives of the people.
