The establishment of the Tourism Studium at the Institute of Geographical Studies of the
Jagiellonian University in 1936 was a unique fact in the history of geography of tourism at
the international level. It played a significant role in the development of Polish and world
tourism geography, spatial and regional planning, especially related to tourism, as well as
with respect to the preparation of personnel for tourism developing at the time in Poland.
The Studium’s activity helped raise awareness in society of the importance of the place of
tourism in the socio-economic development of regions and cities. The Jagiellonian University
Tourism Studium conducted extensive teaching, research, publishing and reporting
activities.

Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie w ujęciu historycznym głównych nurtów badań geograficznych
z zakresu krajoznawstwa, turystyki i rekreacji, realizowanych na Uniwersytecie im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, oraz ich prekursorów. Badaniami objęto okres od powstania
pierwszego Instytutu Geograficznego (1919 r.) do przełomu XX i XXI w. Materiały źródłowe stanowi literatura przedmiotu oraz dane archiwalne Wydziału Nauk Geograficznych
i Geologicznych UAM. W oparciu o przeprowadzoną analizę wyodrębniono kilka podstawowych
nurtów badań: krajoznawczy, fizycznogeograficzny, społeczno-ekonomiczny oraz badań systemowych. Przedstawiona historia problematyki badań wskazuje na ich ewolucję, związaną zarówno z rozwojem nauk geograficznych, jak i przedmiotu badań (tj. skali i zróżnicowania
turystyki, form rekreacji, krajoznawstwa). Charakterystyczną cechą tej ewolucji jest przejście od badań multidyscyplinarnych do badań interdyscyplinarnych – stanowiących m.in. próbę systemowego ujęcia zjawiska turystyki i/lub rekreacji.

This paper presents the venue of the festival, its role in promotion as well as the indication of the cultural heritage of Toruń – a city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is based on a profile of an event tourist, a participant of Skyway Festival. The research methods of online survey and direct interview using the paper version of the questionnaire were used to implement the study. The chosen research methods allowed to reach a group of respondents from various social groups. The profile shows the profile of the participant of event tourism, which is a developing type of cultural tourism. The obtained results indicate that in the case of Toruń, event tourism is one of the attractive forms of tourism, and the leisure time spent in this city is the primary form of association with widely understood culture.
