Optimized Cooperative Localization Technique Based on Linear Intersection over Wireless Sensor Networks

Localization is one of the significant techniques in wireless sensor networks. The localization approaches are different in several applications. Localization offers geographical information for managing the topology. In this paper, we propose optimized cooperative localization technique based on trilateration, multilateration and linear intersection. The approach reduces the error rates, communication cost and energy consumption for maintaining the high accuracy. Furthermore, the approach is implemented for controlling air craft system to avoid the landing and takeoff delays. To demonstrate the strength of the approach, we used network simulator ns-2 to validate the estimation errors, computational latency, energy consumption and error tolerance. Based on the simulation results, we conclude that the presented approach outperforms other existing cooperative scheduling approaches in terms of accuracy, mobility, consumed power.

In this paper, we introduce a novel least distance smart neighboring search (LDSNS) to determine the mostefficient path at one-hop distance over WSNs. LDSNS helps to reduce the energy consumption and speeds up scheduling for delivery of data. It provides cross layering support and linking MAC layer with network layer to reduce the amount of control messages. LDSNS is a robust and efficient approach that isbased on single-hop communication mechanism. To validate the strength of LDSNS, we incorporate LDSN in Boarder Node Medium AccessControl (BN-MAC) protocol [ 15] to determine the list of neighboring sensor nodes and choosing best 1-hop efficient search to avoid collision and reducing energy consumption. Evaluation of LDSNS is conducted using network simulator-2 (ns2).The performance of LDSNS is compared with minimum energy accumulative routing problem (MEAR) [12], asynchronous quorum-based wakeup scheduling scheme (AQWSS) [14] and Minimum Energy Relay Routing (MERR) [13]. Simulation results show that LDSNS is highly energy efficient and faster as compared with MEAR, AQWSS and MERR. It saves 24% to 62% energy resources and improves12% to 21% search at 1-hop neighboring nodes.

We deploy BT node (sensor) that offers passive and active sensing capability to save energy. BT node works in passive mode for outdoor communication and active for indoor communication. The BT node is supported with novel automatic energy saving (AES) mathematical model to decide either modes. It provides robust and faster communication with less energy consumption. To validate this approach, network simulator-2 (ns2) simulation is used to simulate the behavior of network with the supporting mathematical model. The main objective of this research is to remotely access different types of servers, laptops, desktops and other static and moving objects. This prototype is initially deployed to control MSCS [13] & [14] from remote place through mobile devices. The prototype can further be enhanced to handle several objects simultaneously consuming less energy and resources.

The proliferation of smartphones as complex sensing systems represents today the basis to further stimulate the active participation of mobile users in opportunistic sensing services. However, single sensing devices (either independent network com- ponents or integrated inmore powerful devices) generally present different capabilities and implement proprietary standards. This highlights the necessity of defining a common standard for sensing data encoding in order to guarantee the interoperability of heterogeneous devices and personal mobile systems. In this paper we present Sensor Mobile Enablement (SME), a light- weight standard for efficiently identifying, coding and decoding heterogeneous sensing information on mobile devices. After a detailed analysis of SME features and advantages, we present its performances derived from real experiments on Android smartphones. Results highlight that SME does not heavily impact on mobile system’s performances while efficiently supporting opportunistic sensing services.

Localization is a fundamental operation in mobile and self-configuring networks such as sensor networks and mobile ad hoc networks. For example, sensor location is often critical for data interpretation. Existing research focuses on localization mechanisms: algorithms and infrastructure designed to allow the sensors to determine their location. In a mobile environment, the underlying localization mechanism must be invoked repeatedly to maintain accurate location information. We propose and investigate adaptive and predictive protocols that control the frequency of localization based on sensor mobility behavior to reduce the energy requirements for localization while bounding the localization error. In addition, we evaluate the energy-accuracy tradeoffs. Our results indicate that the proposed protocols reduce the localization energy significantly without sacrificing accuracy.

Wireless sensor networks are proposed to deliver in situ observation's at low cost over long periods of time. Among numerous challenges faced while designing WSNs and protocols, maintaining connectivity and maximizing the network lifetime stand out as critical considerations. Mobile platforms equipped with communication devices can be leveraged to overcome these two problems. In this article existing proposals that use mobility in WSNs are summarized. Furthermore, a new approach to compute mobile platform trajectories is introduced. These solutions are also compared considering various metrics and design goals.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) face many challenges including reliability, flexibility and security. When WSNs deployed in remote locations need to be reprogrammed, environmental conditions often make it impossible to physically retrieve them. Over the Air Programming (OAP) plays an important role in achieving this task. Additionally remote management of the WSN is crucial as it allows the user to monitor the download process. Cybersecurity of the WSN helps to ensure that the communication is properly authenticated. Several platform dependent protocols have been developed for OAP including Deluge and MOAP. Due to the restrictions of these platform-dependent protocols, any modifications to the hardware require modifications to the underlying protocol. For example, using OAP for iMote2 sensors requires porting Deluge from an existing hardware. We present the many challenges that we faced in making OAP possible on an iMote2 sensor network platform, including changes and upgrades to: file system management, Java toolbase and GUI implementation, reboot mechanism, robustness and boot loader. The performance of our OAP on the iMote2 platform is evaluated using a real sensor network along the completion time, overhead, and robustness dimensions.

A mobile wireless sensor network owes its name to the presence of mobile sink or sensor nodes within the network. The advantages of mobile WSN over static WSN are better energy efficiency, improved coverage, enhanced target tracking and superior channel capacity. In this paper we will present and discuss hierarchical multi-tiered architecture for mobile wireless sensor network. This architecture is proposed for the future pervasive computing age. We also elaborate on the impact of mobility on different performance metrics in mobile WSN. A study of some of the possible application scenarios for pervasive computing involving mobile WSN is also presented. These application scenarios will be discussed in their implementation context. While discussing the possible applications, we will also study related technologies that appear promising to be integrated with mobile WSN in the ubiquitous computing. With an enormous growth in number of cellular subscribers, we therefore place the mobile phone as the key element in future ubiquitous wireless networks. With the powerful computing, communicating and storage capacities of these mobile devices, the network performance can benefit from the architecture in terms of scalability, energy efficiency and packet delay, etc.
