New taxonomic and faunistic data for fifteen species of the tribe of Omaliini McLeay, 1825 from the eastern Palaearctic and Oriental regions are provided. Five species are described and illustrated as new: Carcinocephalus cuccodoroi sp.n. (India: Assam), Paraphloeostiba gracillima sp.n. (Thailand: Chiang Mai), P. moluccensis sp.n. (Indonesia: Yamdena Island), P. subuliformis sp.n. (Laos), and Tetradelus sinensis sp.n. (China: Yunnan). The aedeagus, abdominal segments and spermatheca of Acrolocha wahuiense Zhong, Zhao & Li, 2009, and abdominal segments of the female of P. cooteri Shavrin, 2020, previously known only on males, are illustrated. New records are presented: Nipponophloeostiba longilobata Shavrin, 2020 and Paraphloeostiba formosana Shavrin & Smetana, 2016 from India, P. cooteri from Fujian and Guangdong provinces of China, P. gayndahensis (MacLeay, 1873) from India and Nepal, P. opacicollis Steel, 1960 from Malaysia, Phloeonomus (s.str.) pusillus (Gravenhorst, 1806) from Pakistan, and Phloeostiba plana (Paykull, 1792) from China.

New taxonomic, morphological and faunistic data for three Western Palaearctic species of the genus Acrolocha Thomson, 1858 are provided. Acrolocha caucasica Tóth, 1976 is redescribed and illustrated. The lectotype for A. pliginskii Bern-hauer, 1912 is designated. Acrolocha amabilis (Heer, 1841) is recorded from Central European part of Russia and Georgia for the first time.

Nine genera of Omaliinae are recorded from Mexico, and a key to separate them is provided. Four new combinations ex Omalium are made: Phloeonomus Faustus (Sharp, 1887), Phloeonomus incultus (Sharp, 1887), Phloeonomus laesicollis (Maklin, 1852) (stat. resurr.), and Phloeonomus pumilio (Sharp, 1887); new Mexican records for eight described Phloeonomus species are presented, including four first Mexican records. Eight genera are newly recorded from Mexico, represented by: Acrolocha newtoni, sp. nov. (Jalisco; also USA: Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wyoming); Dropephylla loebli, sp. nov. (Durango, Jalisco; also USA: New Mexico, Wyoming); Omaliopsis ectopia, sp. nov. (Nuevo León, Oaxaca; also USA: Arizona, California, New Mexico); Omalium meximontanum, sp. nov. (first Omalium in a modern sense- many states; also Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras; USA: Arizona, New Mexico); Xylodromus suteri, sp. nov. (Durango, also USA: Oklahoma to Wisconsin to Connecticut, south to Georgia and Alabama; Canada: southern Ontario); Anthobium amicorum, sp. nov. (Estado de México. Veracruz); A. tapatio, sp. nov. (Jalisco); and Amphichroum floribundum LeConte and Eusphalerum sp. (both Baja California). Distribution maps (except for Phloeonomus) and a checklist with state distributions of all described Mexican species are presented. Female internal genital sclerites are newly recorded in Acrolocha, Dropephylla, Omaliopsis, and Xylodromus.

Pigeons were kept at different air temperatures while measurements were taken of the temperatures in various parts of their bodies. At room temperature the abdomen and the pectoral muscles had nearly the same temperature. At –22°C the pectorals stayed one-half to two degrees warmer than the abdomen, which remained the same as at room temperature. Myograms from the pectorals showed a considerable electrical activity in the cold which vanished at room temperature. It is concluded that the increased pectoral temperature reflects an elevated heat production. As the pectorals of a pigeon make up about one-third of the body weight, it is clear that they make a significant contribution to the accessory heat during cold stress.
