A catalogue is provided for the type material of Phasmatodea (27 species & 9 subspecies) deposited in the Naturhistorische Museum Basel, Switzerland (NHMB). All data for the material concerned are given along with taxonomic and relevant comments. Leocrates mecheli Redtenbacher, 1906 is listed as a new synonym of Haaniella muelleri (de Haan, 1842) as a long-winged form of the latter. Calvisia coniceps Redtenbacher, 1908 is listed as a new synonym of Calvisia virbius (Westwood). A type species is designated for Hemiplasta Redtenbacher, 1908 and Brachyrhamphus Carl, 1915.

The interpretation of some Conopidae (Diptera) described by Robineau-Desvoidy

Conopidae material determined by Robineau-Desvoidy and held in the Hope Department of the University Museum, Oxford (UMO) has been examined. Type species are fixed for the 11 conopid genera described by Robineau-Desvoidy in accordance with Article 70.3.1 of the ICZN. It is proposed to interpret Zodion kroeberi Szilády, 1926 as a valid species [stat. rev.] and to introduce this as the valid name for Zodion carceli auct.

A catalogue of all Phasmatodea type material lodged in the Staatliche Museum für Naturkunde in Stuttgart (SMNS) is provided (28 species: 10 described by BRUNNER V. WAT- TENWYL (1907), 2 by HENNEMANN, CONLE & BRÜCKNER (1996a, 1996b), 1 by HENNEMANN, GEHLER & CONLE (1995a), 1 by KEVAN (1955) and 14 by REDTENBACHER (1906, 1908)). The taxa are listed alphabetically by species for each author along ... [Show full abstract] with the number of specimens, sex, locality and additional information if necessary. A few of the specimens, marked as types, are very doubtful to represent type material; their status is clarified. Some background infor- mation on the collection of the SMNS, important collectors and the type material is provided. The type material of four taxa described by BRUNNER V. WATTENWYL (1907) and four taxa described by REDTENBACHER (1908) from the SMNS could not be traced; it is listed separate- ly. Lectotypes are designated for Diardia battak Redtenbacher, 1908 and Ocnophila ornatissi- ma Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907. Bacteria imitans Redtenbacher, 1908 is found to be a junior synonym of Phanocloidea muricata (Burmeister, 1838). The little-known monotypic genus Paracyphocrania Redtenbacher, 1908 (Phasmatinae: Phasmatini) is reviewed and now comprises two species: P. lativentris Redtenbacher, 1908, and P. tecticollis (Redtenbacher, 1908) comb. nov., which are described and illustrated. A neotype is designated for P. lativentris which is newly recorded from Sulawesi.
