Abstract

Karl Benno von Mechow took part in war actions of the First World War as a cavalry soldier at the Eastern Front. That's why he named his novel not by coincidence The Adventure: A novel about horsemen of the Great War (1930). The topic of his novel is fights of the cavalry squadron in the summer and autumn of 1915 on the Middle Eastern front. The Nazi book reviews interpreted Mechow's novel as a representation of the ideology of leaders, which we cannot agree with. Instead, the specific narration of the novel allows to think, that Mechow treats the "war of horsemen" as the last not modern war of the 20th century.
