Abstract

This paper presents an adapted version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology Model to be utilised as a validation tool of captured user needs and requirements of particular interactive software technologies, within the framework of Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS). In particular, this model is used to assess the users' acceptance and technology adoption of specific CTMS modules of the electronic Primary Care Research Network (ePCRN) Clinical Trial Management Framework System. We present modifications on the variable of the key constructs of UTAUT, while we introduce our own moderating factors for the model in the context of validating an eligibility criteria tool for primary care and community-based clinical research.

More-than-voice (MTV) services are becoming widespread in the developing countries among individuals who represent the bottom-of-pyramid (BoP). The BoP comprises individuals whose income is less than $2 per day. Despite the widespread use of MTV services among the consumers at the BoP, there is no study on what affects their adoption of these services. Therefore, this study investigates the factors that influence consumer acceptance of MTV services at the BoP. The research model proposes that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived social influence, perceived acumen to use, perceived value and perceived facilitating conditions are the principal factors influencing the consumer acceptance of MTV services at the BoP. Secondary data collected by Teleuse@BOP4 from Bangladesh were used to validate the proposed model. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that the acceptance of MTV services at the BoP is positively influenced by perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived acumen to use, perceived facilitating conditions and perceived value. The results also indicate that perceived social influence has no significant influence on the acceptance of MTV services by consumers in the BoP.

In hospitals and healthcare facilities, the conventional healthcare setting is highly monotonous and inefficient, and it does not scale up to meet the present demand for healthcare services. Driven by the increased world population aging and the spread of pandemics, it has become essential to build cohesive and organized healthcare systems that seek to reduce clinical costs and the burden placed on healthcare institutions. The fast development of new technologies has recently sparked a worldwide revolution dubbed the 4th Industrial Revolution that used to improve healthcare services and introduce the concept of Healthcare 4. An example is CloudIoT-based healthcare which contributes to the development of effective healthcare systems that manage and monitor hospitals and patients and improve the quality of healthcare services. Although there are many benefits to using this technology, there is a disparity between its advanced development and its actual usage among healthcare professionals. This research study determines a gap in the current research on investigating the factors influencing healthcare professionals' adoption of this technology since prior studies focused primarily on the functionality and design of its systems, while adoption of such systems is lacking in these studies. The most common models for predicting and evaluating technology acceptance and use are the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2). The aim of this study is to review the relevant literature for these three models and provide a conceptual model for healthcare professionals' adoption of CloudIoT-based healthcare.

The takaful industry in Pakistan has been prevailed for several years but there is huge market not yet exploited. This is the reason to conduct the research on factors useful for adopting Takaful. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of decomposed theory of planned behaviour for the adoption of family Takaful (Islamic life insurance) in Pakistan. This study uses three independent attributes of DTPB model named as subjective norm, attitude and perceived behavioural control; and one dependent variable i.e. adoption of family Takaful. Furthermore, two components of each independent variables have been included. Relative advantage and Usefulness positively influence attitude to adopt family Takaful. Word of mouth and Media influence also have significant impact on subjective norm. Self-efficacy and Resource facilitating condition has direct relation with perceived behavioural control for the adoption of family Takaful. A total of 250 survey questionnaires will be distributed among participants of this study. The study was conducted in Lahore city where the respondents were working individuals belongs to Education, Insurance and Banking sector, who have not yet purchased either life insurance or family Takaful with the age limit of 21 to 60 years. The reason to choose such respondents to identify the intention of the potential customers. The results will increase the knowledge of the Takaful operators and their marketing managers to develop the policies accordingly to target the untapped/target market (the potential customers). Numerous studies have been conducted in Pakistan regarding family Takaful but none of the studies applied the decomposed theory of planned behaviour to know the intention of the customers. All the analyses would be done through SPSS and Smart PLS software. Future researchers can conduct their research using DTPB in General Takaful rather than family Takaful.

The benefits of free and open-source software for geographical information systems, such as QGIS, are appreciated by many all over the world. However, QGIS adoption in South Africa is not primarily influenced by the benefits attributed to open-source software, such as cost benefits, customizability, improved reliability, quality and security. In the first paper from this study, it was found that habit, followed by facilitating conditions, price value and social influence, had the greatest influence on the behavioural intention of members from South Africa's geospatial community to use QGIS. In this article, several hypotheses were developed and tested to investigate the role that moderators (age, gender, GIS experience, educational level and registration with the South African Geomatics Council) had on the behavioural intention of geospatial practitioners in South Africa to use QGIS. Results show that GIS experience, educational level and registration with the South African professional body for geomatics practitioners had a moderation effect on some of the hypothesized relationships, while age and gender did not have any significant effect. Results also show that as one gains experience, social influence and facilitating conditions are less important when deciding to use QGIS; a postgraduate education and professional registration increase appreciation for getting value for money; and registered professionals are not significantly influenced by the perceptions of others when deciding to use QGIS. Habit is not influenced by any of the moderators, suggesting that breaking the habit of using a particular product is a challenge regardless of age, gender, experience, education level or registration status. These results are useful for developers of any GIS product and for choosing a GIS product for an organization, because they explain which user characteristics influence behavioural intention to use a specific GIS product.

This study proposes an e-government adoption model to determine the factors which lead to citizens’ adoption of e-government services in the Togolese context while investigating the mediating roles of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The proposed model was tested using valid and reliable data gathered from a sample of 482 respondents. Findings indicate that behavioral intention to use e-government services is significantly influenced by perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. More importantly, the analysis revealed that, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use play a mediating role, either full or partial between the antecedent variables, social influence, trustworthiness and facilitating conditions and the outcome variable, behavioral intention to use. The implementation of e-government services with a focus on these fundamental factors will eventually increase the acceptance and adoption of such services by citizens.

Social network sites (SNSs) has a big potential to improve teaching and learning experience. It has become a necessity for teachers to transfer this technologies to learning environments has become a requirement. For this reason, the use of SNSs in the education process of preservice teachers who are the teachers of the future and examination of variables that have an impact on the acceptance of these technologies are found important. The use of SNSs in teacher education will enable preservice teachers to be more willing to use information technologies and will improve their skills in using these technologies. For the reasons given, in this study, it is aimed to examine the acceptance and use of SNSs by preservice teachers for educational purposes on the basis of unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model. The study was designed according to relational screening model. Study group of the study consists of 274 preservice teachers at a university in 2017. Data were collected via various scales and personal information form at the end of an application process of 14 weeks + 14 weeks. Descriptive statistics, linear multiple hierarchical regression analysis and structural equation model were used in analysing the data. As a result of the study, it was determined that the acceptance of SNSs for educational purposes was affected respectively by social effect, performance expectation and effort expectation, and behavioral intention of using these technologies affected the actual use. Besides, variables of moderators that were effective on acceptance and use were also determined.

We live in a world where we are exposed to everyday changes that information and communication technologies (ICT) give us impose. These changes are largely related to education, and so the introduction of ICT in universities as institutions of higher education, clearly changing the way it is implemented. The policy of “Goce Delcev” University (UGD) is to fully implement ICT in all segments of management, administration and teaching. For this purpose, several projects for e-learning implementation at UGD have been conducted. But, as much as important introduction is, the more important is the acceptance of new technologies in education. Therefore, we shall use a modified Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as the research methodology. The purpose of this paper is understanding teaching staff acceptance and use eLearning system (ELC) and investigating the influence of seven determinants (four UTAUT determinants, 2 additional determinants and one personal "selfconfidence" determinant). A survey was administered to 92 respondents (teaching staff) to capture their perceptions of e-learning. The findings of this research show that among the seven UTAUT factors, the effort expectancy and facilitating conditions have the strongest effect of intention to use new technology. Also according to the survey, social influence and facilitating conditions are in strongest correlation with the behavioral intention and thereby the most influence on the behavior of participants for acceptance and use of the e – learning system.

While the technology acceptance model (TAM), introduced in 1986, continues to be the most widely applied theoretical model in the IS field, few previous efforts examined its accomplishments and limitations. This study traces TAM's history, investigates its findings, and cautiously predicts its future trajectory. One hundred and one articles published by leading IS journals and conferences in the past eighteen years are examined and summarized. An open- ended survey of thirty-two leading IS researchers assisted in critically examining TAM and specifying future directions.

The present research develops and tests a theoretical extension of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that explains perceived usefulness and usage intentions in terms of social influence and cognitive instrumental processes. The extended model, referred to as TAM2, was tested using longitudinal data collected regarding four different systems at four organizations (N = 156), two involving voluntary usage and two involving mandatory usage. Model constructs were measured at three points in time at each organization: preimplementation, one month postimplementation, and three months postimplementation. The extended model was strongly supported for all four organizations at all three points of measurement, accounting for 40%--60% of the variance in usefulness perceptions and 34%--52% of the variance in usage intentions. Both social influence processes (subjective norm, voluntariness, and image) and cognitive instrumental processes (job relevance, output quality, result demonstrability, and perceived ease of use) significantly influenced user acceptance. These findings advance theory and contribute to the foundation for future research aimed at improving our understanding of user adoption behavior.

Information technology (IT) acceptance research has yielded many competing models, each with different sets of acceptance determinants. In this paper, we (1) review user acceptance literature and discuss eight prominent models, (2) empiri- cally compare the eight models and their exten- sions, (3) formulate a unified model that integrates elements across the eight models, and (4) empiri- cally validate the unified model. The eight models reviewed are the theory of reasoned action, the technology acceptance model, the motivational model, the theory of planned behavior, a model combining the technology acceptance model and the theory of planned behavior, the model of PC utilization, the innovation diffusion theory, and the social cognitive theory. Using data from four organizations over a six-month period with three points of measurement, the eight models ex- plained between 17 percent and 53 percent of the variance in user intentions to use information technology. Next, a unified model, called the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Tech- nology (UTAUT), was formulated, with four core determinants of intention and usage, and up to four moderators of key relationships. UTAUT was then tested using the original data and found to outperform the eight individual models (adjusted

Valid measurement scales for predicting user acceptance of computers are in short supply. Most subjective measures used in practice are unvalidated, and their relationship to system usage is unknown. The present research develops and validates new scales for two specific variables, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, which are hypothesized to be fundamental determinants of user acceptance. Definitions for these two variables were used to develop scale items that were pretested for content validity and then tested for reliability and construct validity in two studies involving a total of 152 users and four application programs. The measures were refined and streamlined, resulting in two six-item scales with reliabilities of .98 for usefulness and .94 for ease of use. The scales exhibited high convergent, discriminant, and factorial validity. Perceived usefulness was significantly correlated with both self-reported current usage (r=.63, Study 1) and self-predicted future usage (r =.85, Study 2). Perceived ease of use was also significantly correlated with current usage (r=.45, Study 1) and future usage (r=.59, Study 2). In both studies, usefulness had a significantly greater correlation with usage behavior than did ease of use. Regression analyses suggest that perceived ease of use may actually be a causal antecedent to perceived usefulness, as opposed to a parallel, direct determinant of system usage. Implications are drawn for future research on user acceptance.

The electronic Primary Care Research Network (ePCRN) is an electronic infrastructure that facilitates the conduct of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in primary care and promotes the translation of research findings into practice. It provides a highly secure, Internet-based electronic infrastructure that will enable primary care practices anywhere in the United States to link with researchers in academic centers or the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to facilitate recruitment, entry, and follow-up of participants in multidisciplinary RCTs. The ePCRN also establishes a standardized clinic-based registry using distributed database technology to promote the translation of research findings into practice and to facilitate the process of clinical trials recruitment. The overall goals of the ePCRN are to provide the ability to perform large national collaborative studies throughout the United States, improve efficiency and reduce costs for individual trials, provide easier access for data retrieval and analysis, and involve primary care practices in the discovery and the translation of research findings into practice.

Increasing interest in end users' reactions to health information technology (IT) has elevated the importance of theories that predict and explain health IT acceptance and use. This paper reviews the application of one such theory, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), to health care. We reviewed 16 data sets analyzed in over 20 studies of clinicians using health IT for patient care. Studies differed greatly in samples and settings, health ITs studied, research models, relationships tested, and construct operationalization. Certain TAM relationships were consistently found to be significant, whereas others were inconsistent. Several key relationships were infrequently assessed. Findings show that TAM predicts a substantial portion of the use or acceptance of health IT, but that the theory may benefit from several additions and modifications. Aside from improved study quality, standardization, and theoretically motivated additions to the model, an important future direction for TAM is to adapt the model specifically to the health care context, using beliefs elicitation methods.
