Two new species of Chrysocharis Foerster and a new synonymy and record of Sympiesis Foerster (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea; Eulophidae) from western Canada
Abstract and Figures
Chyrsocharis (Nesomylal yoshimotoi sp.n. and C. (N.! elmaellae sp.n.
IEtedontinae) are deseribed from the Vancouver district, British Columbia, Canada.
Sympiesis conica (Prov.J, S. compresstcornis (Prov.J, S. nigrifemora Ashm., S.,
nigripes Ashrn., and S. massasoit Crawf. are synonymized with S. sertcetcornis
(Neesl , and Sympiesis gordius (Walker) is newly recorded from North America.
All of the parasites were reared from mines of Phyllonorycter elmaella Doğanlar
and Mutuura (l.epldoptera : Gracilarüdae),

A cladistic analysis of known species of both Hemiptarsenus Westwood and Sympiesis Förster (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) in Hungary was carried out based on 176 morphological characters from adults. Three most-parsimonious trees (MPTs) were produced, strictly consensused, and rerooted. Monophyly of Sympiesis was supported by all 3 MPTs. A review of the genera Hemiptarsenus Westwood and Sympiesis Förster was made based on the results of the cladistic analysis. Sympiesis petiolata was transferred into Hemiptarsenus. Several other species in both Hemiptarsenus and Sympiesis were removed from the synonymy lists of different species and reinstated.
This study provides information on the species of Chrysocharis ( Kratochviliana ) found in North America with special emphasis on the Canadian species attacking the birch casebearer, Coleophora serratella (L.) (= fuscedinella Zeller), and the birch leafminer, Fenusa pusilla (Lepeletier).
The genus Chrysocharis Förster in North America north of Mexico consists of two subgenera, Kratochviliana Maláč and Chrysocharis s. str. There are 15 Nearctic species of Kratochviliana , of which 10 species are described herein as new. These are: C . ( Kratochviliana ) robusta n. sp., C . ( K .) incerta n. sp., C . ( K .) stipitis n. sp., C . ( K .) hirsutiventris n. sp., C . ( K .) walleyi n. sp., C . ( K .) protolithocolletidis n. sp., C . ( K .) milleri n. sp., C . ( K .) aluta n. sp., C . ( K .) coptodiscae n. sp., and C . ( K .) cuspidigaster n. sp. Relationships and distribution of species-groups in North America and Europe are discussed. Keys to subgenera and species and host records are included.
