A INFLUÊNCIA DO USO E OCUPAÇÃO DO SOLO NA QUALIDADE E GENOTOXICIDADE DA ÁGUA NO RESERVATÓRIO DE ITUPARARANGA, SÃO PAULO, BRASIL

Abstract
Os reservatórios brasileiros vêm sofrendo grandes pressões antrópicas devido ao contínuo aumento populacional, que por sua vez, exerce grandes pressões sobre o meio ambiente. Diante dessa problemática, este estudo objetivou analisar a influência do uso do solo sobre a qualidade e genotoxicidade da água no reservatório de Itupararanga (São Paulo, Brasil). Para isso, coletas de água e sedimento foram analisadas em relação à sua qualidade, genotoxicidade e diversidade bentônica, assim como sua inter-relação com a paisagem. O reservatório mostrou-se eutrofizado na maioria das estações amostrais e foram encontradas alterações genéticas nas células do meristema radicular de A. cepa expostas em algumas estações amostrais, além de apresentar baixa diversidade de organismos bentônicos. Dentre as variáveis que mais contribuíram para as alterações genéticas e para a qualidade da água estão a presença de vegetação ripária, o solo exposto e a ocupação urbana. Com os resultados obtidos através deste estudo foi possível concluir que o reservatório de Itupararanga está comprometido em relação à qualidade da água e do sedimento, necessitando de manejos emergências para garantir a sustentabilidade desse recurso hídrico.

The Brazilian reservoirs have been under great anthropo-
genic pressure due to continued population growth, which in
turn places great pressures on the environment. Given this is-
sue, this study aimed to analyze the inuence of land use on the
quality and genotoxicity of water in the Itupararanga reservoir,

la inuencia del uso de la tierra en la calidad y la genotoxi-
cidad del agua en el reservorio de Itupararanga, São Paulo,
Brasil. Para ello, muestras de agua y sedimentos fueron anali-
zadas en cuanto a su calidad, la genotoxicidad y su diver-
sidad bentónica, así como su interrelación con el paisaje. El
reservorio resultó ser eutróco en la mayoría de las estacio-
nes de muestreo, y se encontraron alteraciones genéticas en

    [Show abstract] [Hide abstract] ABSTRACT: Anthropic eutrophication is one of the most widespread problems affecting water quality worldwide. This condition is caused by excessive nutrient inputs to aquatic systems, and one of the main consequences is accelerated phytoplankton growth. Eutrophication can lead to damage to human health, the environment, society, and the economy. One of the most serious consequences of eutrophication is the proliferation of cyanobacteria that can release toxins into the water. The aim of this research was to evaluate the trophic condition of a tropical reservoir over the course of time, using a database extending over 15 years to investigate relationships with environmental conditions, considering spatial heterogeneity and seasonality, as well as inter-relations between trophic state indicators. Data for chlorophyll-a, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen were collected from 2000 to 2014, and cyanobacteria abundance was determined from 2004 to 2014. The trophic state index was also calculated. The results demonstrated the existence of two distinct compartments in the reservoir: one lotic and the other lentic. No relationship was observed between chlorophyll-a and phosphorus. The results suggested that phytoplankton growth was mainly controlled by nitrogen concentrations. These conditions favored cyanobacteria predominance, resulting in increasing abundance of these potentially toxic bacteria over time. The model obtained indicated hypereutrophic conditions, with high phytoplankton biomass and cyanobacteria abundance during the next years likely to affect the uses of the water of the reservoir.

  • [Show abstract] [Hide abstract] ABSTRACT: Biomass and elemental composition (C, N, H) of the periphytic community attached to Polygonum punctatum Ell. in a subtropical reservoir and its relationship to environmental factors The periphytic communities in Brazilian reservoirs have been studied widely due to their importance for the assimilation of nutrients and their role at the base of the food chain. The objective of the present work was to analyse the environmental variables that influence the development of periphytic communities attached to stalks of the aquatic macrophyte Polygonum punctatum Ell. Five sample collections were made during 2010 at two sites in the Itupararanga reservoir (Ibiúna, São Paulo, Brazil). The macrophyte was collected, and the periphytic community attached to its stalks was scraped off with a brush and jets of distilled water. Using a PLS analysis, we observed that 94.3 % of the variation in periphyton biomass could be explained by concentrations of nitrate, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, water clarity and dissolved inorganic phosphorous. According to the indices applied, in 2010 the biomass of the periphytic community in the reservoir was low and predominantly heterotrophic, and the concentration of carbon in the periphyton was lower than that found in previous studies of this community.
