Abstract and Figures

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are becoming popular in medium and large-scale organizations all over the world. As companies have to collaborate across borders, languages, cultures, and integrate business processes, ERPs will need to take globalization into account, be based on a global architecture, and support the features required to bring all the worldwide players and processes together. Due to the high cost of implementation for these systems, organizations all over the world are interested in evaluating their benefits in the short and long terms. This chapter discusses various kinds of business benefits in a comprehensive way in order to justify the acquisition and implementation of ERP systems in organizations in the present global context.

The Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems are one of the highly complex systems in the information systems field; the implementations of this type of systems need a long time, high cost, and a lot of resources. Many factors affect the successful implementation of ERP system. The critical success factors (CSFs) can be categorized as general, ICT related and software engineering or system life cycle (SLC) related. This paper is a survey paper that identifies ERP systems CSFs in general and software engineering CSFs in specific. Also an agile methodology for ERP systems' implementations will be presented. Many existing ERP systems were surveyed and presented from ICT / software engineering point of view.
... According to Mishra [37] is it hard to quantify the benefits of information technologies due to the presence of both tangible and intangible benefits. A tangible benefit can be defined as an item that is capable of being estimated at an actual value. ...
... A studied found that over 60% of Fortune 500 companies have adopted ERP system [13]. In another study conducted in [14] said the company robotics increased delivery times reached 40% after implementing ERP systems, and Delta Electronics succeeded in reducing the laboratory requirements of production control division up to 65%. ...

This study addresses the issues of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Knowledge Management (KM) and SECI model (socialization, externalization, combination, internalization). Various research have highlighted the importance of knowledge of ERP users for successful ERP implementation, however a major obstacle from the perspective of integration or knowledge transfer cycle still exists. The main problem in ERP implementation is the difficult integration of tacit (embedded) and explicit knowledge cause most of this knowledge are embedded in ERP external parties (such as consultants, vendors, suppliers, supervisors, experts, and other working partners). The focus of this study is to propose process for transfer knowledge from external organizations into organizations based on the model of SECI. To note that this paper is not to modify the basic model of SECI, but SECI model to making as a function of mediator between the external and internal ERP system implementation in company. The authors used a systematic literature review approach, starts with literature review, problems identification, selection process, assess, synthesize and write down the ideas proposed, and then make conclusions. Finally, the output of this research is a new model (schematic and technical) of the process and transfer knowledge order to maintain and re-use assets from external knowledge obtained during the pre to post ERP implementation to be used jointly by the company.

To do activities effectively and generate a value chain for organization competitiveness, it is required to run supply chain in best way by logistic services information system. Supply chains in the best way using logistic services information. Supply chain management has two purposes, first to deliver the product to the end users via multiple departments and, secondly, to deliver products to last customers because as it is beneficial to manage such product with coordination and monitoring everyday supply. To improve departments by equipping them with the best strategic information system, and to avoid all the associated risks its requires to have a specific system for inventory control. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is to illustrate the transition of the existing systems towards Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The study also proposes inception plans to develop the necessary software and search towards the best system by keeping in view many organizational constraints. To the end, a survey is carried out to measure the relationship between management models and organizational innovativeness in internal processes as part of the efforts towards adopting the new system planning.

This paper describes the idiosyncracies of a case study company, through highlighting issues and problems experienced during their attempts to evaluate, implement and realise the holistic implications of a manufac-turing information system. Although the Information System (IS) was operational for a period of time, it was eventually deemed a failure. The reason for this was that a range of human and organisational factors prevented the organisation from embracing the full impact of the system. The eventual success of their information system was realised through a bespoke implementation, based upon a traditional systems devel-opment lifecycle that indirectly addressed learning issues following the earlier failed deployment. The paper highlights key issues relating to business success and failure, and then contrasts them alongside the presented case study. In doing so, the authors conclude by proposing methods through which manufacturing information systems can be transformed for business success. This is described achievable through both a realisation in the positioning of the organisation relative to technology management, and the related map-ping of human and technological constructs that support information systems related success. The paper analyzes the organization of effective resource saving of the enterprise. Enterprises need to implement innovative technologies and tools, as well as to motivate all participants in the process to achieve high overall productivity. One of the ways to increase the efficiency and rationality of the activity is the introduction of the management system of development of resource saving enterprise (RSE). The EPR management system is influenced by external and internal factors. One of the main factors of the external environment is the state regulation in the direction of resource saving, because a small number of business entities can turn to the development of resource-saving enterprises without state support. Defined the concept of "resource saving" as a complex positive effect on the state of the company, which combines the economic, social and environmental factors, the result of the implementation of resource conservation is economically viable for the company. The process of resource saving at the enterprise positively affects a wide range of subjects who perceive its results. According to international standards, Ukraine's economy is one of the most resource-intensive in the world through a large proportion of resource-intensive industries, outdated and inefficient technology, extreme depreciation of assets, inefficient systems of transformation and energy supply. World experience in the development and implementation of resource saving programs has a great variety of mechanisms and economic methods to ensure the efficiency of resource consumption in all areas of economic activity. The article highlights the most effective methods and applied to the realities of Ukraine. The study revealed the main problems of Ukrainian enterprises in the management of resource protection and development of resource protection. Today, finding ways of solving these problems and determining the main ways of stimulating enterprise teams and personnel management is especially important for the formation and implementation of an effective system of resource-saving development.

As the pace of competition intensifies in the 80's, the use of information systems as competitive weapons is accelerating. Among the now classic cases are the computerized reservation system of American Airlines, the Cash Management Account of Merrill Lynch, and the order entry system of American Hospital Supply. These are examples of strategic information systems (SIS). The work that gave rise to this paper addresses the question, "How can an organization discover such SIS opportunities systematically?" The authors developed and implemented a five-phase planning process to identify and evaluate SIS and to win top management support. Underlying their approach is a conceptual framework that views an enterprise's suppliers, customers, and competitors as the strategic targets of five strategic thrusts: differentiation, cost, innovation, growth, and alliance. Strategic thrusts represent the fundamental link between the firm's strategy and its use of information technology. Strategic information systems support and shape the organization's strategic thrusts.

Ordinary financial measures oversimplify the evaluation of advanced manufacturing system technologies (AMSTs). In this paper, a multiple-objective decision model is developed that avoids the shortcomings of traditional evaluation methods. The model is comprised of three objectives—pecuniary, strategic, and tactical. The pecuniary objective is based upon traditional discounted cash flow (DCF) techniques, with the results normalized to a [−1, +1] (worst-best) scale. The strategic and tactical objectives are based upon the concept of qualitative flows, and a qualitative discounting method is employed to discount the qualitative costs and benefits to a present value. The three objectives are traded off using the composite programming technique, resulting in a rank ordering of the alternatives under consideration. The three objectives of the model are broken down into attributes that define the objective. These attributes are mapped into the organization of a manufacturing environment. It is shown that the model covers the entire manufacturing organization in accounting for the costs and benefits of the proposed AMST alternatives. In addition to providing a ranking among alternative AMST projects, the influence of the three objectives on the final score can be analyzed using a mixture experiment. The mixture experiment provides insight into the effect of varying the importance of each objective and its effect on the final rankings. This provides the analyst a method to determine which attributes and objectives are critical for the AMST alternative being investigated.

This paper presents a framework for assessing the business benefits of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. After analyzing the features of ERP systems, the literature on IT benefits, data from 233 ERP-vendor success stories published on the web, and interviews with 34 ERP cases, we have produced a consolidated framework of five benefit dimensions. This framework tries to classify the types of benefit that organizations can achieve by using ERP systems and provide a comprehensive foundation for planning, justifying, and managing the system. The framework focuses on benefits only, from the point of view of management as stakeholders; it does not consider costs.
