Several Web sites such as Slashdot and digg, which use power of user-contributed recommendations and contributions, are attracting a community of readers who submit, rate, rank and comment on stories. Slashdot users contribute links to stories and sites that are likely to be of interest to the community. They can also comment on submitted stories. Slashsot uses a moderation system to leverage the power of community to filter through the many comments and to promote quality comments. The comments give a broader perspective on the accuracies or inaccuracies of a story and can have links to contrary opinions and additional perspective. Meanwhile, digg initially focused on technology, science, movies, and music, has expanded to include more subjects such as world news, business, sports, and entertainment. Stories appear on digg after being submitted by a registered user, and allow users to rate the submitted stories themselves.
