ELEKTRONIKA vol.54, no.4/2013, p.149-154; O europejskim Laserze rentgenowskim EXFEL (a także innej wielkiej infrastrukturze badawczej o zasięgu globalnym) warto pisać z powodu tego, że w budowie tej wielkiej i bardzo skom-plikowanej maszyny uczestniczą liczni inżynierowie mechanicy, termodynamicy, elektronicy i elektrycy, chemicy, i fizycy, a także managerowie projektów z polski. Budują systemy kriogeniczne, optoelektroniczne, optyczne i fotoniczne, elektroniczne, sterowa-nia i pomiarowe, projektują wnęki rezonansowe i systemy okab-lowania, prowadzą obliczenia dotyczące konstrukcji maszyny i jej potencjalnych zastosowań, opracowują nowe generacje syste-mów zabezpieczenia maszyny i bezpieczeństwa obsługi. W tej grupie jest wielu młodych uczonych, doktorantów, którzy realizują swoje pasje badawcze i budują swoją międzynarodową karierę naukową. projekt eXFeL jest znakomitą kuźnią kadr naukowych i technicznych a także managerskich najwyższej jakości

Compact Muon Solenoid at LHC; The CMS Level-1 trigger was used to select cosmic ray muons and LHC beam eventsduring data-taking runs in 2008, and to estimate the level of detector noise. This pa-per describes the trigger components used, the algorithms that were executed, andthe trigger synchronisation. Using data from extended cosmic ray runs, the muon,electron/photon, and jet triggers have been validated, and their performance evalu-ated. Efficiencies were found to be high, resolutions were found to be good, and ratesas expected Performance of the CMS Level-1 trigger during commissioning with cosmic ray muons and LHC beams.

Compact Muon Solenoid at LHC; The CMS Hadron Calorimeter in the barrel, endcap and forward regions is fully com-missioned. Cosmic ray data were taken with and without magnetic field at the sur-face hall and after installation in the experimental hall, hundred meters underground.Various measurements were also performed during the few days of beam in the LHCin September 2008. Compact Muon Solenoid at LHC; The resolution and the linearity of time measurements made with the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter are studied with samples of data from test beam electrons, cosmic rays, and beam-produced muons. The resulting time resolution measured by lead tungstate crystals is better than 100 ps for energy deposits larger than 10 GeV. Crystal-to-crystal synchronization with a precision of 500 ps is performed using muons produced with the first LHC beams in 2008.

Projekt dotyczy rozwo-ju Europejskiej infrastruktury akceleratorowej. Dla laboratoriów krajowych jest ważny ze względu na plany budowy takiej infra-struktury w Polsce. Infrastruktura akceleratorowa o charakterze badawczym podstawowym i stosowanym stymuluje wokół niej rozwój i zastosowania przemysłowe i biomedyczne akcelerato-rów, badania materiałowe, kriotechnikę, mechatronikę, robotykę, a szczególnie elektronikę – jak sieciowe systemy kontrolno – po-miarowe, czujniki, systemy komputerowe, automatykę i systemy sterowania. Artykuł prezentuje przegląd wybranych zagadnień naukowych i technicznych do rozwiązania w ramach europej-skiego projektu rozwoju badawczej infrastruktury akceleratorowej EuCARD-2 Enhanced European Coordination for Accelerator Research & Development. Artykuł opracowano na podstawie do-kumentów Internetowych i Intranetowych dotyczących projektu Eucard-2, dokumentu FP7 EuCARD-2 DoW-312453, 2013-02-13, a także dyskusji i materiałów przygotowawczych do złożenia wniosku o projekt do EC prowadzonych i opracowywanych w gro-nie inicjatorów projektu

Accelerator Infrastructure in Europe EuCARD 2011; IJET 2011, 57(3), p.413-419; The paper presents a digest of the research results in the domain of accelerator science and technology in Europe, shown during the annual meeting of the EuCARD – European Coordination of Accelerator Research and Development. The conference concerns building of the research infrastructure, including in this advanced photonic and electronic systems for servicing large high energy physics experiments. There are debated a few basic groups of such systems like: measurement – control networks of large geometrical extent, multichannel systems for large amounts of metrological data acquisition, precision photonic networks of reference time, frequency and phase distribution. Keywords—Electronics and photonics for high energy physics experiments, free electron laser, distributed measurement and control systems, precise timing distribution systems of large space extent, advanced electronic systems, integration of hardware and software.

TRIDAQ Systems in HEP Experiments at LHC Accelerator, IJET 2013, 59(4), 415-421; The paper describes Trigger and Data Acquisition (TRIDAQ) systems of accelerator experiments for High Energy Physics. The background for physics research comprises assumptions of the Standard Model theory with basic extensions. On this basis, a structure of particle detector system is described, with emphasis on the following functional blocks: Front-End Electronics, Trigger and DAQ systems. The described solutions are used in the LHC experiments: ATLAS, ALICE, CMS and LHCb. They are also used in other accelerator experiments. Data storage and processing functionality is divided into two hardware systems: Trigger and Data Acquisition, that are dependent on each other. High input data rate impose relevant choices for the architecture and parameters of both systems. The key parameters include detailed system structure and its overall latency. Trigger structure is defined by the physics requirements and the storage capability of DAQ system. Both systems are designed to achieve the highest possible space and time resolution for particle detection. Trigger references are reviewed [1]-[39] as well as chosen accelerator research efforts originating in this country [40]-[83].

Performance of CMS Muon Reconstruction in Cosmic-Ray Events

Compact Muon Solenoid at LHC; The performance of muon reconstruction in CMS is evaluated using a large data sample of cosmic-ray muons recorded in 2008. Efficiencies of various high-level trigger, identification, and reconstruction algorithms have been measured for a broad range of muon momenta, and were found to be in good agreement with expectations from Monte Carlo simulation. The relative momentum resolution for muons crossing the barrel part of the detector is better than 1% at 10 GeV/c and is about 8% at 500 GeV/c, the latter being only a factor of two worse than expected with ideal alignment conditions. Muon charge misassignment ranges from less than 0.01% at 10 GeV/c to about 1% at 500 GeV/c.

These experiments concern mainly the physics of elementary particles or the building of new machines and detectors.
