Time‐Dependent Perturbation Theory

A time‐dependent perturbation theory which is based upon the U‐matrix approach is presented using the interaction e‐αt(1 + e‐βt)−1V(x) with β real, α complex and β > Re α > 0. Thus the adiabatic or time‐independent approximation (β → 0) and the sudden approximation (β → ∞) can be obtained using just one formalism. Two interesting results are (1) The derivation of the ``golden rule'' from the discrete‐state time‐dependent perturbation theory presented in most text books of quantum mechanics leads to erroneous physical interpretations because the energy‐level shift is ignored. (2) When considering scattering between states in the continuum, it is found that a characteristic feature of time‐dependent interactions is a discrete momentum spectrum of final states which, in the relativistic case, leads to a mass spectrum. These spectra cannot be obtained using the S matrix.

Abstract The temples and worship among the Pagan Armenians according to ancient Armenian historical texts The subject of this article is the temples and worship among the Pagan Armenians. The article is based on ancient Armenian historical texts. These texts are dated to fifth century AD. The histories of Khorenatsi and Agathangelos are the basic sources in these texts. Data in regard to the subject in these texts is scattered because of different reasons. The aim is to construct a new outline about the temples and worship among the Pagan Armenians. Pre-Christianity Armenians are the image-worshippers. There are three main centres of temples; Erzincan and surroundings (Erez, Ani etc.), Mush (Ashtishat) and Bagavan, and the Armenian capitals in the sides Araks river (Bagaran, Artaxata, Armavir). There were certain feasts, sacrifaces, donation and offers to these temples. The administrator of temples is the chief-priest (k’rmapet). Arrival of Low German loanwords in Estonian

In Estonian there are many Low German loanwords borrowed in the 13th-17th centuries. The present article seeks to define more exactly the period of time they entered the language. An important temporal landmark is the oldest Estonian-language printed material of the 16th-17th centuries. As literary Estonian is relatively young, we can find out the occurrence of loanwords in printed texts, but it ... [Show full abstract] is not possible to determine their first appearance in spoken language. It is very likely that the earliest loanwords were oral borrowings. Another temporal landmark is offered by source publications which make available the language of old manuscripts. Historical publications based on archival manuscript materials are also a good source of old Estonian words and personal names. The occurrence of old loanwords therein enables drawing a temporal borderline since when, at the latest, such loanwords have been in use. Owing to archive materials, a more exact dating of literary language finds has become possible. This article presents dating examples of about fifty loanwords recorded in old literary language materials and/or in personal names found in archival documents. A lively interest in loanwords borrowed before the 17th century arose in the 1920s and 1930s. Since that time, more of essential language and name materials have become available in archives and loanword research has made progress, so that now it is possible to make corrections and additions to earlier results.
