Abstract

... Forty-seven slug species belonging to 5 families were identified from Turkey. Although species richness is very high compared to that of many countries in the Palaearctic region, Turkey is among the least known in terms of of its slug fauna and a lot more information is needed about its fauna (Simroth, 1899; Wiktor, 1971 Wiktor, , 1983 Wiktor, , 1984 Wiktor, , 1987 Wiktor, , 1994 Wiktor, , 1996 Wiktor, , 1997 Wiktor, , 2000 Schütt, 2001). ...
... Distribution: This is a widespread European species recorded from Great Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the former Yugoslavia, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Poland, the western former Soviet Union and Caucasus, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Syria. In Turkey, it is the most widespread slug; previous records are from ‹stanbul (Üsküdar), ‹zmir, Bolu, Ankara (Hacılar), Zonguldak, Sinop, Mu¤la, Burdur, Isparta (E¤irdir), Antalya, Adana, Kayseri, Zonguldak, Samsun, Trabzon (Derbent), Erzurum (Oltu), Diyarbakır, Mardin, Siirt and Bitlis (Wiktor, 1971Wiktor, , 2000 Schütt, 2001). Habitat: Near human settlements: in cellars, woods, gardens, parks, and vineyards. ...

... We assume this to be a museum's error or confusion that occurred already in the collection of bourguigNat. R e m a r k s : This species is frequently recorded from places in the eastern mediterranean area (Wiktor 1971(Wiktor 1994hEllEr 2009) and is considered to be distributed by human activities. This is typical for the locality given here, which is a larger city close to Amman. ...

The terrestrial molluscs of Jordan are revised. In total, 45 species of land snails were identified, 10 of them being recorded for the first time for the country. Taxonomic studies yielded some new insights: the large species of Buliminus in Jordan is B. jordani (Charpentier 1847), and not B. labrosus (Olivier 1804); the identity of Pupa michonii Bourguignat 1853 could be clarified, which constitutes an older name for Pupa ledereri L. Pfeiffer 1868; a new hypotheses is presented for the species of the Ferussaciidae living in the east Mediterranean area; and the latest results concerning the research on the helicid genus Levantina are discussed. The identification of most of the species is based on the study of type material, and the type specimens of many synonym taxa are here illustrated for the first time.

... Although widespread and common in general (Schütt, 2001;, H. lucorum is presumably an adventive species in most of southern Anatolia, where it is found usually as a synanthrope. D. reticulatum, on the other hand, occurs almost exclusively in synanthropic environments in Turkey (Wiktor, 1971(Wiktor, , 1994Schütt, 2001), and it is presumably not a native species . ...

Th e land snail fauna of the Mut District was surveyed during the spring (April-May) of 2008. A total of 31 species and subspecies—9 (29%) of them endemics—belonging to 26 genera and 14 families were determined from 41 localities. Dominant families were Enidae, Orculidae, and Hygromiidae. Humidity, vegetation, and habitat type were the determinants of species richness in the study area. Species composition, according to cluster and multivariate analyses, was also found to be aff ected by the altitude factor.
... The course of the right ommatophora l retractor has changed often within the Stylommatophora . Nevertheless, there are only a few species which are polymorphic with regard to this character (e.g., Krynickillus urbanskii ( Wiktor), see Wiktor 1971). The crossing with the penis is the plesiomorphic character state. ...

Seven Monacha species have been found in the Western Caucasus region. Six of these species are endemic there. They all belong to the subgenera Paratheba and Metatheba. Three species are new to science. M. (Paratheba) claussi, sp. n. and M. (Metatheba) subcarthusiana (Lindholm) are the only Monacha species, in which the right ommatophoral retractor sometimes crosses with the penis. This might be due to an ancestral polymorphism, atavism or a basal position of the two species within Monacha, which would mean that Paratheba is paraphyletic and Metatheba is polyphyletic. Monacha (Monacha) cartusiana (O. F. Muller), the only Monacha sensu stricto species in the Caucasus region, has probably been introduced by man. The shell and the genitalia of every species are described and illustrated. The synonyms and all Caucasian locality records are listed. The distributions of the species are illustrated on UTM-grid maps.

The current synopsis presents an overview of the terrestrial malacofauna of Strandzha Mountain in Bulgaria and Turkey, based on previously published and new data. As a result of the research we recorded 101 species and subspecies of terrestrial molluscs belonging to 27 families. The data on the terrestrial malacofauna from the Turkish part of Strandzha is entirely new and presented here for the first time. The synopsis includes a list of synonymous species and subspecies concerning the area of research, all known localities, new localities reported for 50 taxa, systematic and environmental data. For the first time a zoogeographical and conservation analysis of the terrestrial snails is made.
