... In today's digital world, information surrounds us. We constantly encounter a vast amount of digital data, both actively seeking it out and passively receiving it through various channels (Karvalics, 2007). Screens have become the primary way we consume this information, creating a situation that Bawden and Robinson (2009) call "homogenized diversity" -a diverse range of information presented in a similar format. ...

This paper explores the information paradox, where the vast availability of digital information does not necessarily lead to greater knowledge or wisdom, exacerbating issues of cognitive overload, misinformation, and ethical dilemmas. Drawing from historical and philosophical perspectives, we connect ancient epistemological challenges, like Plato's allegory of the cave and Descartes' skepticism, to modern digital phenomena. These age-old philosophical questions highlight the ongoing nature of the information paradox, which is the difficulty in finding and confirming accurate knowledge in the face of an enormous volume of data. The paper also addresses the digital divide, emphasizing disparities between digital natives, who are adept with technology, and digital immigrants, who face barriers in accessing and processing digital information. Theoretical frameworks such as the Shannon-Weaver Model and Floridi's Philosophy of Information provide insights into the technical, semantic, and ethical dimensions of information processing. Practical implications are considered, highlighting the need for digital literacy programs, equitable access to technology, and ethical information practices. Future directions include leveraging artificial intelligence to manage information overload and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to develop holistic solutions. By examining the epistemological, ethical, and practical dimensions of the information paradox, this paper aims to foster a more informed and equitable digital society, where information can be effectively transformed into meaningful knowledge and wisdom.
... This condition, as noted by Jones et al. [39] and Rogers and Agarwala-Rogers [60], leads to information breakdown. The digital era has exacerbated this issue, creating an "information society" [61] with a vast amount of digital data that challenges information quality assessment, resulting in information smog [62]. Research has shown that information overload can harm performance and decision-making [63]. ...

Introduction. The changes in the economy and society that have been taking place in recent decades in developed industrialized countries, which have led to a global restructuring of the world economy and the political map of the world, are based on a change in the place of information and knowledge in the economy and society, as well as a change in their role and functions in the process of reproduction of society. This transformation of the place and functions of information and knowledge in the economy and society is associated with the emergence of modern information technologies and, as a result, with changes in society that occur in the process of technology reproduction and the associated change in social priorities and value orientations towards information and knowledge. Supporting the resource reorientation of the country's economy should include replacing the use of raw materials and energy resources with information and knowledge resources, and supporting those sectors of society that generate information and knowledge resources. Purpose. On the basis of the study of the concepts of information society development, to formulate recommendations for solving key transformation problems. Method (methodology). The article uses the information method of research to effectively obtain information from scientific literature, periodicals, and the Internet on the selected issues, and the method of heuristic forecasting and generalisation for theoretical substantiation and generalisation of independent characteristics, their analysis and synthesis. Results. The article considers the problems of formation of the information society by the conceptual principle. It has been established that the main problems of the information society should be considered in the context of civilization theory and in view of the close interrelation at the micro and macro levels. The main problems related to information inequality, overload, inconsistency and information pressure are identified. The influence of information and communication technologies on the development of society is considered and it is proved that high-quality information is the basis for the formation of new knowledge and a source of socio-economic development. Recommendations are made for the safe use of information and the improvement of technological and digital literacy on the basis of information growth.

The main focus of research efforts is aimed at finding institutional criteria, which allows classifying a certain state as an informational state, distinguishing it from the abstract concept of an information society. The purpose of the publication is to determine the fundamental role of political institutions in the establishment of an informational state and to identify current approaches to its constitution in the political sphere. The author investigates the essence and role of institutions in the state and society, as well as their influence on the political process. It is argued that effective political institutions are particularly important for the functioning of democratic political regimes, as they must ensure that public institutions act clearly in line with their legal powers complying with the principles of transparency and accountability. The article describes one of the first attempts to measure an indicator of the state’s «informationality», which was carried out by the Tokyo Research Institute RITE. The article highlights the process of institutionalization of the information society within the boundaries of the European Union. It has been traced that measures to institutionalize the information state on the European continent began at the end of the 1990s. They implied development and adoption of strategic documents to determine the principles of state policy in the field of information management and implementation. Further steps to formalize the institutions of the informational state included liberalization of telecommunications and normative consolidation of social guarantees for citizens.

“Jane Austen Reloaded” in Kinga Földváry, Zsolt Almási and Veronica Schandl (ed). HUSSE 10-LitCult, Proceedings of the HUSSE 10 Conference, Literature & Culture Volume. Debrecen: Hungarian Society for the Study of English, 2011, 302-310., available:http://mek.oszk.hu/10100/10171/10171.pdf In this paper, I intend to examine the diachronic inter/cultural interpretation and dialogue concerning Jane Austen and her works within information society. One of the central images to be discussed is the 1995 Entertainment Weekly picture of Jane Austen as a successful and high-tech script writer in Hollywood equipped with a laptop and a mobile phone, although sitting in her Georgian habit (photo by Theo Westenberg). My aim is to examine the inter/cultural dialogue between her age and the age of information society and to see how she and her works are recycled, reloaded and reinterpreted in the age of mechanical reproduction. Her works as well as her persona as a subject of artistic reproduction in the context of multimediality are to be discussed in addition to how all these are re/present/ed on the internet, in digitalized forms or through any other technical/mechanical reused and re/adapted forms such as films, audio recordings etc. Her overarching legacy through time is proven by her presence even in the multimediality of information society.

An increasing pace of innovation in telecommunications, information technology has facilitated our society’s transition into what is called the “Information Age”. This work is intended to offer a means of understanding current directions in digital innovation. In 1948, the general theory for electronic communications (Shannon 1948), contributed to a substantial reorganization of our society; some fifty years later, Castells attempts to grasp the relationships between emerging technical, economic, political and cultural trends and helps us understand the processes of change triggered by the convergence of information and communication technologies (ICTs). In this work, starting from the interdisciplinary literature, the main theoretical and practical contributions leading to technological convergence are investigated in order to open a window on the contemporary landscape in semantic web, algorithmic reasoning and social intelligence (Esposito 2022). The resulting framework, although due to the dynamism of the phenomena under consideration, is not meant to be an exhaustive analysis of the relationship between digital tools and society, it rigorously summarizes many of the major technical and social issues open today and, in view of the future expansion of the ICT ecosystem, underscores the urgent need for conscious citizen participation in the information society.

From the Publisher:We are told that the industrial age is declining and the information age is emerging. In this new age our lives will be cleaner, greener, more pleasant, more intellectual, and perhaps even less manic because we will value ideas rather than things. In the cusp of this new era are we better off today than we were yesterday? Why has information, information technology, and the information economy and society become so visible and assumed so much importance in our daily lives? To answer these and other questions, The Information Society examines 19 countries, which are categorized as high-, middle-, and low-income nations by their Gross Domestic Product per capita, to define "Informatization" along three primary dimensions: infrastructure, economic, and social. Dordick and Wang take a retrospective look at the information explosion of the past 20 years to see where we have been, what have been the consequences, and where we are now based on the forecasts and predictions made over the past two decades. This in-depth study will be of special interest to students and scholars in communication studies, technology/information systems, political science, sociology, and management and organization studies. The Information Society will also be of value to development planners and decision makers.

The Gutenberg Galaxy catapulted Marshall McLuhan to fame as a media theorist and, in time, a new media prognosticator. Fifty years after its initial publication, this landmark text is more significant than ever before. Readers will be amazed by McLuhan’s prescience, unmatched by anyone since, predicting as he did the dramatic technological innovations that have fundamentally changed how we communicate. The Gutenberg Galaxy foresaw the networked, compressed ‘global village’ that would emerge in the late-twentieth and twenty-first centuries - despite having been written when black-and-white television was ubiquitous. This new edition of The Gutenberg Galaxy celebrates both the centennial of McLuhan’s birth and the fifty-year anniversary of the book’s publication. A new interior design updates The Gutenberg Galaxy for twenty-first-century readers, while honouring the innovative, avant-garde spirit of the original. This edition also includes new introductory essays that illuminate McLuhan’s lasting effect on a variety of scholarly fields and popular culture. A must-read for those who inhabit today’s global village, The Gutenberg Galaxy is an indispensable road map for our evolving communication landscape.
