EFFECT OF Ta SUBSTITUTION ON FORMATION AND SUPERCONDUCTIVITY OF TlSr1212 CERAMICS

Abstract
Effects of tantalum substitution for Sr on formation and superconductivity of Tl 0.9 Bi 0.1 Sr 2-x Ta x Ca 0.9 Y 0.1 Cu 2 O 7 (x = 0 – 0.4) ceramics were investigated. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns showed all samples consist of major 1212 phase and minor 1201 phase. Temperature dependent resistance measurement on Tl 0.9 Bi 0.1 Sr 2-x Ta x Ca 0.9 Y 0.1 Cu 2 O 7 with x = 0 and x = 0.05 showed metallic normal state behavior with T c onset of 93 K and 96 K, respectively. Substitution of tantalum caused deterioration of superconductivity and gradual change of normal state resistance to semiconductor-like behavior for x = 0.1 – 0.4
