    ABSTRACT: To define the structure of the phytoplankton community, with emphasis on harmful species in the oyster banks of Terminos Lagoon, SE Gulf of Mexico, six stations were monitored monthly from July 2012 to May 2013. Water temperature, salinity, hydrogen potential, dissolved oxygen and abundance of phytoplankton were measured. The temperature and salinity were characterized by marked seasonal differences. The pH values and the percentage of dissolved oxygen suggest a predominance of the photosynthetic activity.
