At a lunchtime ceremony in Buckingham Palace on the 15th October 2008, Professor Roald Bahr was presented with The Prince Philip Medal by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T. The medal was awarded to Professor Bahr by the Institute of Sport and Exercise Medicine (ISEM), an organisation founded in 1958 and of which HRH. The Duke of Edinburgh is an Honorary Fellow.

Professor Peter Hamer, Head of Physiotherapy at The University of Notre Dame Australia has been recognised with a Service Award for his significant contribution to the national sports medicine organisation, Sports Medicine Australia. In Western Australia he has served on the local branch board for 20 of the last 25 years including 10 years as Branch President as well as four years as Vice-President (Physiotherapy) on the National Board of Directors of Sports Medicine Australia. Peter has been previously recognised for his contributions to sports medicine by inclusion on the 2000 Australian Honours Roll being awarded the Australian Sports Medal. Within the same week, Peter was also recognised by the WA Branch of the Australian Physiotherapy Association with an Award for Excellence for his contribution to physiotherapy education. His citation read: “Peter has a passion for helping others learn, a “can do” attitude and a habit of not saying “no”. Consequently, as an APA member he has contributed to learning for others over many years. He has given presentations to many APA groups including Sports, Gerontology, Aquatic, Paediatric, Neurology and Rural and Remote, as well as overseas and interstate workshops, WA Branch Conferences and the National Conference. His exceptional teaching ability is well known and extends from both undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy, to other professional groups and to members of the community. Prospective study of injury in volleyball players: 6 year results

Objective: The aim of the study was to analyse prospectively over six seasons the acute and overuse ... [Show full abstract] injuries of a German male professional volleyball team. Methods: The study included 34 male national league players from season the 2007/08 to 2012/13. All players received a sport medicine examination and a functional diagnosis before each season. Based on the results the players received an individual training plan. Results: The players suffered 186 injuries. The prevalence of acute injuries was 1.94 per player and overuse injuries 0.64 per player. The incidence of acute injuries was 3.3/1000 h volleyball and overuse injuries 1.08/1000 h volleyball. The largest number of injuries was found in the spine. The players had most likely minor injuries. The players had significantly fewer injuries in their second season (1.92) than in their first season (3.25; p= 0.004). Conclusion: It could be concluded that volleyball is a sport with a relative low prevalence of injuries compared to other team sports. The prevalence of injury is 2.58 per player. Due to an injury a player dropped out 16.91 days per season. An individual training program seems to reduce the incidence of injury.
