Spanish midwives, who had attained their degrees for many decades at the University, got incorpored in different positions of the Administration, in the years previous to the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Many midwives were forced into exile when de Civil war finished. Mexico was the country that took most of them in, and they have salso been located in other Latin-American countries, such as Chile and Dominican Republic, as well as in Europe, mainly in France. This paper analyzes the reasons that forced each of them into exile, and the difficulties they had to overcome in order to get a job as miwives.
