Estimación de la tasa diaria de precipitación, por satélite, en América del Sur


The objective of this study was to quantify the hourly and daily rate of precipitation using the infrared band of GOES satellite images. We present the theoretical, physical and mathematical principles of the techniques used NESDIS Hydro, which was used to estimate rate of precipitation.
This method uses an algorithm based on the temperature of cloud surface, changes of this temperature and gradients in the infrared band to produce half-hour precipitation rates for the northern part of the South America.
The process was automated in two steps. First by using geo processing tools and programming language “Python” within the Arc GIS, and for the second stage we developed an application within DIVA GIS using JAVA language programming.
