Since the country’s tourism have a great impact on the economy, the Philippine government continues to develop and rehabilitate, if necessary, the tourist attractions in the country. One of the country’s rehabilitation projects is at the Manila Bay (Adel, 2022) where the Dolomite Beach, a reclaimed shoreline, is part of the DENR’s Rehabilitation program. Since its opening, it earned the potential to be a tourist destination in the Manila area. However, a number of individuals have raised concerns with regards to sustaining its clean environment given its location as a public destination spot. This prompted the researchers to study the tourism destination potential and environmental sustainability (perception of respondents)) of the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach. Utilizing convenience sampling, 121 respondents (comprising of government officials, residents, and business operators at the beach) were surveyed. Results indicated that Manila Bay Dolomite Beach has a potential to be a tourist attraction, with respondents expressing strong agreement towards its appeal, particularly its shoreline, white sandy beach, and sunsets. Furthermore, respondents demonstrated commitment to environmental protection, as evidenced by their agreement to adhere to rules, dispose of waste responsibly, and act as responsible tourists. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation (Pearson r = 0.298, p < 0.001) between the potential of the beach as a tourist destination and its environmental sustainability. Thus, the findings emphasized the importance of stakeholders' commitment to environmental conservation for the long-term success of tourism in the area.

In the recent decades, tourism movement has been scrutinized significantly as the route of overcoming global environmental and sustainability problems. As the consequences of, the prerequisite knowledge about environmental sustainability is a concern among all industrial activities either in product manufacturing and, or management services in tourism development. For the human existences on earth and dealing with those un-avoidable circumstances, this chapter can guide researchers how to identify or analyze environmental complications in tourism development process, which also could be managed towards achieving tourism sustainability in the developing countries like Bangladesh. Necessary environmental reporting and managing of tourism industry could be framed profoundly with the guidance of a robust tool, particularly with a sustainable development tool “FSSD (Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development)”. Research shows that the use of a product related tool entitled “FSSD” serves an organization from the overall sustainability point of view, which stimulates the existing development process of an organization to satisfy the business needs, with a particular interest of tourism sector. However, the overall integration process of product development in tourism sustainability is based on back casting from sustainability principles that can bring onward a platform for practicing environmental policies either in the manufacturing related tourism product, or its service management issues. The generic approach of product development tool in tourism sector reveals a holistic approach of movement towards sustainable development.

Sri Lanka is a proud nation in the world for its ancient architectural and irrational structures. Unlike today, the hospitals were not served for purpose of natural labor and delivery. Most of the houses have had a private labor room for the purpose. However, the architectural plan of the labor room was different to the other bedrooms of the house. The roof of the labor room was usually covered by Calicut tile (Sinhala tile) or thatched. The walls were constructed by mud or laterite bricks; however, plastered by lime. Front door was smaller compared to the other room doors in the house. The room had one rectangular window or fan light. Important architectural plan was there for the floor of the room. It was covered by timber, mainly by Neem timber (Margosa timber). However, underneath the timber layer there were three layers consisting, 3-4 feet sand, mud and charcoal layers from bottom to top. In between two layers, there was a lime layer. The room was sometimes used for other functions including the control of epidemic diseases, control of post-child birth psychosia and for healing wounds. It is interesting to understand the scientific concepts behind this labor room and then, to learn and practice them if possible. Therefore, experiments were carried out using three sample labor rooms (3×4 square feet sized) under the same environmental conditions. Unit A were constructed similar to the ancient labor room, unit B was constructed similar to the ancient labor room, but the walls were built by cement blocks and unit C was constructed as per the modern-day room with cement floors. These three rooms were monitored for atmospheric temperature, atmospheric humidity, dissolved oxygen (DO) of water samples of well water and pipe born water (to calculate biochemical oxygen demand, BOD) and microbial actions on some selected food (bread and fish) for a three months period. Interesting results were found from this research work.

In contrast to the dominant multiattribute commodity view of outdoor recreation settings, wilderness users are described as having emotional and symbolic ties to the setting that are manifested as attachment to the site and the wilderness concept. Data from four wilderness areas show stronger place and wilderness attachment to be associated with previous visits, rural residence, a setting focus, visiting alone and on weekdays, hunting in the area, and sensitivity to site impacts and horse encounters. Place attachment is also associated with a lack of nonwilderness substitutes and lower income and education. Wilderness attachment is associated with membership in wilderness and conservation organizations, visits to more wilderness areas, a preference for longer visits, participation in nature study, and sensitivity to sight and sound intrusions and hiker encounters. -from Authors
