A metastable ternary Nd‐Fe‐B compound

    Abstract

    The metastable compound Nd 6 Fe 77 B 17 has been obtained by the crystallization from the amorphous phase in the Nd‐Fe‐B system. Its crystal structure is similar to that of the compound Nd 2 Fe 23 B 3 . At high temperature this metastable compound decomposes into α‐Fe and Nd 1.1 Fe 4 B 4 phases. The room temperature magnetization and coercivity are 154 A m<sup>2</sup>/kg and 12 kA/m, respectively.
