The study is concerned with the elements of school ability, firstly, as they are dealt with in the current literature on the definition and criteria of school maturity and also in an empirical investigation into the reasons for delayed education. From the comparison between these 2 or 3 lists of elements there appeared significant differences between the content of the concept, school maturity, in the literature, and the concrete deficiency of school maturity in children who were delayed in Innsbruck.
