Segmentation of Ultrasonic Medical Image Based on Wavelet Transform and Mathematical Morphology.

Segmentation algorithms have had fairly limited application in ultrasound imaging. A novel speckle suppression and segmentation method for medical ultrasound image is presented. First, the raw data are analyzed by means of the wavelet transform, then the empirical wavelet coefficients are shrunk, and the denoised signal is synthesized from the processed wavelet coefficients through the inverse wavelet transform. The experiment shows that the speckle noise has been filtered and image details have been preserved by the method. Finally, According to the statistical characteristic of the image, the segmentation method based on mathematical morphology is presented. We design different kinds of structure element to obtain the segmentation of the image. The Segmentation result shows that the method is reliable and effective.
