Vertreter der Gattung Calotropis (Asclepiadaceae) als Raupenfutterpflanzen von Danaus-Arten (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae, Danainae)
This paper discusses the status and origin of the 32 butterfly species, a third of which are endemics, known from the Canary Islands in the context of the evolutionary history and the vegetation of the islands. On the basis of personal investigations on most of the islands, records by several colleagues and an evaluation of the extensive literature, an account of habitats, early stages and larval food-plants is given and detailed distribution maps are presented for the first time.
Es wird auf die Biologie und die Ökologie von Danaus chrysippus (Linnaeus, 1758) auf den Kanarischen Inseln eingegangen. Orbea variegata (L.) Haworth, 1812 wird als Futterpflanze der Larven dieser Art gemeldet.
Entwicklungen der Populationen von Danaus chrysippus (Linnaeus, 1758) und Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758) auf den Archipelen der Azoren, der Kanarischen Inseln und von Madeira innerhalb der letzten zwei bis drei Jahrzehnte werden dargestellt und diskutiert.
Es werden Anmerkungen zur Biologie, zur aktuellen Verbreitung und zu den Raupenfutterpflanzen von Danaus chrysippus Linnaeus, 1758 im Mittelmeerraum gemacht. Kannibalismus durch Danaus-Larven wird diskutiert.
