Can an aspect of consciousness be imprinted into an electronic device?

Abstract

Although quantum mechanics allows consciousness to have some effect on the collapse of wave functions, most conventional scientists expect the effect to be quite small. Their experience with expert systems, computer-aided design, etc., would cause them to deny the possibility that a specific human intention could be imprinted into a simple electronic device via a meditative process and that this device could then influence a target experiment in accordance with the specific intention. Here, via two very different target experiments, that prevailing supposition has been experimentally tested and found to be fallacious! For each target experiment, one starts with two identical physical devices, isolates them from each other and ?charges? one with the specific intention for the particular experiment. This charging process involved the services of four highly qualified meditators to imprint the device with the specific intention. The devices were then wrapped in aluminum foil and separately shipped, via Federal Express ?2,000 miles to a laboratory where the actual target experiments were conducted by others.

It is generally accepted that a placebo in a standard, randomized, controlled trial (RCT), being an inert substance, cannot itself produce any effects. Yet, the magnitude of the placebo effect has increased remarkably in the last three decades. We propose that macroscopic information entanglement potentially explains a change in the placebo such that it no longer behaves as an isolated and inert element in a RCT. In modeling a theoretical perspective for the placebo effect, we will first show that human intention can change physical properties of target materials or biological systems. Second, we will explain how human intention appears to raise the gauge symmetry state of the experimental space from the normal electric, atom molecule level [U(1) gauge state] to a higher gauge symmetry level with magnetic wave information properties [SU(2) gauge state]. Under normal circumstances, these two separate gauge states do not interact with each other. Human intention is able to "condition" space so that the U(1) and SU(2) gauge states can interact or become "coupled". Intention effects are robust in the coupled space. Entanglement or connectivity of systems is seen by virtue of the SU(2) magnetic wave information component in coupled space. A medical trial has several "subsystems" including the doctors, subjects, treatment, and placebo. Although these subsystems in U(1) gauge state appear to be separate, they are entangled by the magnetic information wave component. Thus, the placebo becomes information entangled with the other subsystems in the overall experiment, including the treatment, and the end result is that the treatment and the placebo may behave in a very similar fashion.

Advances in biophysics, biology, functional genomics, neuroscience, psychology, psychoneuroimmunology, and other fields suggest the existence of a subtle system of "biofield" interactions that organize biological processes from the subatomic, atomic, molecular, cellular, and organismic to the interpersonal and cosmic levels. Biofield interactions may bring about regulation of biochemical, cellular, and neurological processes through means related to electromagnetism, quantum fields, and perhaps other means of modulating biological activity and information flow. The biofield paradigm, in contrast to a reductionist, chemistry-centered viewpoint, emphasizes the informational content of biological processes; biofield interactions are thought to operate in part via low-energy or "subtle" processes such as weak, nonthermal electromagnetic fields (EMFs) or processes potentially related to consciousness and nonlocality. Biofield interactions may also operate through or be reflected in more well-understood informational processes found in electroencephalographic (EEG) and electrocardiographic (ECG) data. Recent advances have led to the development of a wide variety of therapeutic and diagnostic biofield devices, defined as physical instruments best understood from the viewpoint of a biofield paradigm. Here, we provide a broad overview of biofield devices, with emphasis on those devices for which solid, peer-reviewed evidence exists. A subset of these devices, such as those based upon EEG- and ECG-based heart rate variability, function via mechanisms that are well understood and are widely employed in clinical settings. Other device modalities, such a gas discharge visualization and biophoton emission, appear to operate through incompletely understood mechanisms and have unclear clinical significance. Device modes of operation include EMF-light, EMF-heat, EMF-nonthermal, electrical current, vibration and sound, physical and mechanical, intentionality and nonlocality, gas and plasma, and other (mode of operation not well-understood). Methodological issues in device development and interfaces for future interdisciplinary research are discussed. Devices play prominent cultural and scientific roles in our society, and it is likely that device technologies will be one of the most influential access points for the furthering of biofield research and the dissemination of biofield concepts. This developing field of study presents new areas of research that have many important implications for both basic science and clinical medicine.

Psi phenomena are often regarded as non-scientific because there has been no explanation for how a person can be influenced by another person or by a physical object without the transmission of physical stimuli, such as light. As it turns out, quantum physics offers a concept that enables us to deal with this issue. In quantum entanglement two things are interconnected across distances of time and space in the absence of any type of transmission. We examine several lines of evidence from parapsychology, including extrasensory perception, precognition, retrocognition, and psychokinesis, that may be accounted for in terms of quantum entanglement. Psi phenomena have been regarded as nonphysical, but may exemplify an established physical principle.

Electrosensitivity exists as a very real problem. There is ample biological evidence to enable an understanding of this widespread phenomenon. Recent studies suggest possible genetic links, confirm positive subjective evidence, and confirm that voltage-gated calcium channels are an established mechanism for EM effects at nonthermal levels. Problems stemming from the conceptual context explain why even well-intentioned investigators may be tempted to deny, defer, obscure, or otherwise divert truth. It is also noted that there are vested interests at stake. As a result a great deal of EM and RF technology has been developed on the mistaken “presumption of no harm.” Unfortunately, ES not only exists but affects many, many people, the great majority of them undiagnosed (because of lack of medical knowledge) and either expensively investigated or mistreated, or worse still ignored, dismissed or ridiculed. Three case studies are noted, including one of the authors, which may of course incur criticism of bias, but perhaps may achieve an acknowledgement of the use of the human as an instrument of experimentation as well as an honest scientifically trained witness to symptoms. The Austrian Medical Association Guidelines provide a useful tool for the Practitioner.

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity is categorised as a multisymptomatic 'el-allergy' in the Nordic classification of 2000 (R.68.8). Its symptoms are 'certainly real' and it can be a 'disabling condition' (W.H.O., 2005). It was first recorded in the mid 20th century as an occupational illness, but it has now spread into the general population through environmental exposure from increasing levels of electromagnetic fields and radiation. The field of energy medicine (EM) is perhaps the most controversial branch of integrative medicine: its core concept - the existence of an invisible healing energy – has not yet been validated by Western medicine, and the mechanism(s) of action of its techniques have not been fully elucidated. In this paper, these problems are addressed by first outlining the organization of the human subtle energy system, and noting which components of that structure (meridians, energy centers and biofield) are impacted by various EM techniques. Evidence regarding the existence of this “subtle anatomy” is then presented from three realms: basic science research into electromagnetic fields (EMF), subjective experiences of EM, and clairvoyant perceptions of EM in action. Secondly, EM’s mechanisms of action are explored by describing how these techniques alter energy dynamics and affect biologic processes, a subject that could be termed “energy physiology”, to parallel conventional medicine’s foundation in anatomy and physiology. Finally, research into “energy physiology” is proposed, focusing on unusual experiences that are not fully explained by the current mechanistic biomedical model, but which do have plausible and verifiable energy-based explanation. These subjects include phantom limb pain, subtle energy-induced oxidative stress, emotional entrainment in groups, and the invisible templates that guide cell growth and differentiation. This article describes the outcomes of nursing students taking a course in complementary and alternative therapies focusing on energetic modalities that were used as a means of self-care. Students kept journal logs and did a formal presentation for the class. Nursing students reported decreased stress and improved concentration, academic performance, productivity, and problem-solving while experiencing a greater appreciation of their clinical experiences. Using Therapeutic Touch and other subtle energy interactions, the students also cited improved interpersonal relationships, increased feelings of calmness, a higher degree of self-awareness and self-care, reduced physical pain, increased energy, and greater appreciation of the world around them. The theoretical framework was Margret Neuman's theory of health as expanding consciousness. While this is an elective nursing course, the nursing students were primarily juniors and seniors already taking clinical courses. A research study with a wide sample of student participants, especially freshmen, and using quantitative as well as qualitative measures would be beneficial to determine if such a course should be part of the standard nursing curriculum to not only expand nurses' understanding of complementary and alternative therapies but also to help students with their own self-care and influence their practice as clinicians.

This article describes the use of energy dialogue technique (EDT), a healing intervention that provides awareness of imbalances in the energetic field that affect patients' health and guide the practitioner to sense and direct the frequency, vibration, intention, awareness, or consciousness to correct these imbalances. The authors document the effectiveness of this technique as it was used to treat side effects of the medical intervention for hepatitis C in a male with hemophilia. Following EDT, the client's symptoms of fatigue and pain improved by 30% to 40%; moreover, thyroid function returned to normal. The authors suggest that EDT be studied and explored for inclusion as a treatment modality.

To fulfill the general scientific method requirement for one of our earlier Minnesota experiments, namely that laboratory spaces operated by other investigators at different sites in the United States can be conditioned to a higher electromagnetic gauge symmetry state than our normal background state and such a space can be specifically tuned so that the pH of purified water in equilibrium with air will be increased by approximately 1.0 pH unit with no chemical additions. Insertion of a specific intention imprinted electrical device (IIED) into the space for a period of at least 3 months while continuously monitoring the pH of purified water wherein the water was replaced and the pH-electrode recalibrated on a 2-week cycle. Control sites were associated with each IIED site. Offices in homes and clinics. Three IIED sites plus three control sites. None. Continuously recorded pH and temperature. (1) Linear and exponential pH(t) variations with time at IIED sites, with the Delta pH-values increasing with each 2-week cycle up to a value of approximately 0.8-1.0 pH units, (2) control sites, 2-20 miles distant from the IIED sites exhibited similar behavior but with smaller Delta pH-values, and (3) a new information transfer mechanism in nature has been demonstrated. Human consciousness, at least under some conditions, can strongly influence well-designed target experiments in physical reality and the primary data are reproducible in other laboratories provided the specific protocol is followed.

A simple electric dipole model, in the static limit, was used to analyze simultaneous voltage recordings from the ear of an experienced non- contact therapeutic touch specialist and from four surrounding copper walls during a 30-minute therapy session wherein 15 ear voltage surges were recorded, ranging between -20 V and -80 V from baseline with time dura- tions from approximately 0.5 to 12.5 s. In 13 of these 15 voltage surges, the origin of the dipole was located in the abdominal region and the dipole length extended from the ear to the feet with the ear always negative. In the other 2 cases a second dipole may also form in the head. A possible mechanism is given for the formation of these electric dipoles.

Exploratory experiments have been carried out on commercial bottled waters to test the efficacy of a specific human intention to influence the pH of these waters. Two different electronic devices are utilized as the carriers of this specific intention. Experiments comparing (a) the device-absent condition, (b) the device-present, but unimprinted with the specific intention, condition and (c) the physically identical device-present, but imprinted with the specific intention, condition have been carried out. A clear, but somewhat small, effect of the specific intention imprinting has been recorded and studied for Evian water. Ca/Mg carbonate crystal forma-tion occurred in this water during the experiments and somewhat obscured the main purpose of the study. A pH-stable 50/50 solution of a commercially available bottled water and ASTM Type I purified water and a 100% Type I purified water were used for further experiments. The pH-time course of these solutions was monitored for the three conditions (a), (b) and (c) men-tioned above. Both short-term and long-term pH behavioral differences were noted between exposure of these solutions to the intention-imprinted devices and the physically identical unimprinted devices. Very robust effects have been recorded with the maximum pH change achieved being 1.0 + 0.05 pH units, exactly the value programmed by the imprinted intention.

A brief discussion is given of a set of anomalous experimental phenomena that are inexplicable based only on the four accepted forces oper- ating in the physical universe. Possible explanations require defining the ex- istence of subtle energies. Using a quantum mechanical description, the seat of subtle energy functioning is traced to the vacuum state with magnetic vec- tor potential assuming the role of bridge between the subtle energies and physical energies. A brief discussion is given of how we might reliably detect subtle energies and a zeroth order model of the subtle domains as substruc- ture for the vacuum state is given.

Exposure of developing larvae to a few specific electromagnet- ic fields (EMFs) and information-augmented EMFs modified (a ) the ex- pression of larval development time, a genetically based trait relevant to development and whole organism fitness, and (b ) a measure of energy me- tabolism, the (adenine triphosphate/adenine diphosphate) ((ATP)/(ADP)) ratio in isofemale strains of Drosophila melanogaster . The study represents a compilation of approximately 10,000 larvae and 7,000 adults counted. The specific EM frequencies used in this study, 5.0, 7.3, 8.0, and 9.3 MHz at output power levels in the approximately 1 microwatt range, were pro- duced by two small electronic devices of physically identical nature, but one was intentionally imprinted with specific information. Exposure peri- ods varied from 4 hours to one life cycle. Larval development time was sig- nificantly shortened (approximately 10%) and the (ATP)/(ADP) ratio sig- nificantly increased (approximately 30%) in a Faraday cage without the EMFs compared to a Faraday cage with the specific EMFs. The Faraday cage represents a shielded environment that facilitates exposure to both fewer and specific electromagnetic frequencies. Larval development time results for development in the laboratory environment, which represents exposure to background EMFs of various frequencies, were intermediate. The information-augmented EMFs also gave intermediate results. Overall, there were no significant effects observed for the other measured fitness components— third instar larval weight, adult survival, and surviving adult weight. We discuss a thermodynamic model to account for our results and general bioelectromagnetic effects and attribute the change in development time to EMFs modifying electron transport chain activity and the (ATP)/(ADP) ratio via the influence of the EMF/magnetic vector potential upon electron availability and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide levels.

This book is an important companion volume to The Science of Crystallization: Microscopic Interfacial Phenomena. It deals specifically with convection, heat transport, and solute transport and describes both steady state and transient solute distributions in bulk crystals, small crystallites of various shapes, and thin films. Integrating these factors, it treats interface instability for interfaces of different shape plus the dominant morphological characteristics found in crystals during either single phase or polyphase crystallization. The concepts are extended to embrace biological crystallization and the connecting links between the morphological features of polymer crystallization and simple organic molecule crystallization. In addition, the generation of physical and chemical defects is treated for both bulk crystals and thin films to show both the origins of these faults and some procedures for eliminating them. A variety of mathematical examples are utilized to help the reader gain a quantitative understanding of this topic.

Perturbation of energy metabolism via NAD supplementation modifies the expression of larval development time, a genetically based trait relevant to development and whole-organism fitness in Drosophila melanogaster. The results suggest a link between energy metabolism and gene expression. Supplemental NAD significantly decreased larval development time for isofemale strains chosen on the basis of development time differences. This effect did not represent a trade-off with larval survival, and was not related to the effects of supplemental glucose. The isofemale strains were assayed by using a method derived from Warburg's manometric procedures which measured changes in the proportions of ATP, ADP and AMP in larval homogenates. Supplemental NAD appeared to increase the proportion of ATP and the [ATP]/[ADP] ratio in vitro and during larval development. The decrease in larval development time mediated by NAD was attributed to supplemental NAD modifying the NAD pool beyond levels established during development, directly altering electron transport chain activity, ATP, ADP and AMP levels, and possibly gene expression.
