e-library for gerontology and geriatrics Greece,

The e-library is used by between 2-4000 people per month. It is ongoing and individuals can and need to tell us of new relevant publications of interest to Greek older people, health and care service providers, researchers and students.

The e-Library continues- now the challenge is to make every individual in Greece aware of material that may help them - as an older person, a family member, a caregiver, a health professional or a researcher. We need support from all of you undertaking EU projects so that the Greek material and findings are entered. We need tiny bits of money to ensure we can pay our web master... So everyone reading this update has the chance to help and contribute....

The original funding for the e-library finished and now the work of getting the library known to all those who could find it useful remains uppermost. Well over 2000 people have visited it and 340 are even linked through Facebook to the e-library. Researchers and students should find it through university library links we have made. The issue of how to get it known to the public- older people, families who care, is uppermost.

The other concern is that of updating the library. Authors are asked to send in relevant articles. And of financing it. One suggestion is to ask all new programes undertaken in Greece to give a small amount to publicize their findings

The initial completion of the e-library means that our next concern is to ensure that the e-library gets used. This means informing every researcher, academic, NGO, health and social care professional that there is very useful Greek material for them to use. You can also check if a relevant article you wrote or know about has been entered, and also enter via an on line form, any useful article/ book/ video in line with the aims of the project.

To mark the 1st October - the day for Older people - HAGG launched the e-library - already with over 1100 entries it should prove useful to the public and researchers.

We will be delighted to receive new entries.

Shortly we will be sending out a note to all those with new research projects asking them to pay a small sum from their communication budget so we can publicize their research.

June 9th - the project is 7 months on and we have well over 600 entries. The library will open to the public in the early autumn. Please if you are aware of good research work from Greece and useful findings for the public concerning older people, let me know. We have a small team of researchers who are helping doing entries, so whether from gerontology or geriatrics remind us of them!

We continue adding references to Greek work on ageing. We are very interested in finding material based on scientific findings designed to be read by the public. We need far more references to active and healthy ageing and how to promote it. Thanks to a number of researchers we have over 500 entries so far....

We are going forward at 300 entries!. And rising. Thanks to all researchers- helpers! Our goal is to find evidence and recommendations on how to improve older people's healthy life expectancy. We will shortly be contacting researchers with findings on Greek older people ... we need people to work with us on finding and uploading the papers to the e-library. Contact me if you are interested or curious.

This project is being done by the Hellenic Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics with a grant from the TIMA Foundation. It will be in Greek and will bring together - as much as possible - research and clinical evidence on what can help improve healthy life expectancy in Greece. There will be links to material in other languages and authors will be asked to send Abstracts in Greek and links to the publication. Those who have material to upload will be hearing from us soon but please feel free to contact us. We need to pool our resources so we can achieve a better and healthier life in old age in Greece.
