Project

Wozep, Wind op zee ecologisch programma (Ecological program offshore wind farms)

Goal: Investigate the latest generic and integral ecological knowledge gaps related to Dutch offshore wind farms.

My focus is on changes in sediment characteristics, fishery intensity, soft and hard substrate macrozoobenthos and demersal and semi-pelagic fish. Links with higher trophic levels will be investigated.

added a research item
Dutch offshore wind farms (OWFs), bottom-up influence and possible ecological consequences of the scenarios. Theme session F: Bottom-up approaches: the contribution of marine benthos to management, conservation and monitoring; taking stock, and setting research direction Wednesday, 26 September, 13:30-15:30, Lecture Hall J

added an update
This summer we will investigate electromagnetic fields generated by subsea OWF export powercables and we will film to get a first insight in behavior and density of marine fauna.

Fisheries intensity in the Dutch Prinses Amaliawindpark offshore region report is published (in Dutch) https://www.noordzeeloket.nl/publish/pages/140804/visserij-intensiteit_in_en_rondom_het_prinses_amalia_windpark_c091-17_rapport.pdf
The statistical analysis of the soft substrate benthos development in the Dutch Prinses Amaliawindpark offshore region will follow quickly.

Currently we are preparing for a hard substrate benthos survey in offshore windfarms 10 y after being operational. We are investigating standard research methods and by using DNA barcoding and ROV techniques.
The report about the soft sediment benthos development in Prinses Amaliawindpark (PAWP) (t10) will be finished soon.
