THE TOXIC EFFECT OF FENTHION ON GROWTH AND SURVIVAL OF CYPRINUS CARPIO
Goal: Toxicant effects of fenthion on growth, feeding, oxygen consumption and survival levels of Cyprinus carpio fingerlings were studied. Results showed that mortality increased with increase in concentrations. The maximum acceptable concentration for Fenthion to C. carpio was fixed between 0.193 and 0.096 mg/1.The exposed fish has slowed down opercula beats. Also respiratory stress and erratic swimming were observed in exposed fish. The fall in growth rate can be attributed to reduction in food consumption rate .The mortality observed in the present investigation could be due to stress on account of starvation when C. carpio was exposed to Fenthion
