A new polyphonic concatenative sampler synthesizer, Su-perSampler, is introduced in this article, along with its compartments, algorithms, and structure. SuperSampler is designed to provide composers with a new approach to start electro-acoustic music composition from a gesture or phrase level. It can support different practices from assistant electro-acoustic music composition to live performance , free improvisation, live coding and more. A unique design for SuperSampler is to apply music information retrieval (MIR) technology for a computer to perform a polyphonic sound orchestration with the approach of modern musique concrète techniques. Differing from conventional sampler synthesizers, SuperSampler automatically arranges sounds vertically and horizontally to be compositionally meaningful while playing multiple notes at the same time in order to create sounds correlated to the amplitude envelope that users assign. When multiple notes are triggered simultaneously, Su-perSampler aligns the peak point of each sample to create a united sound. It also provides several compositional choices for users to determine the presentation of grouped samples. When an amplitude envelope is provided, Su-perSampler uses different strategies for different types of sounds based on their durations and percussiveness to fulfill the target outcome.
