RiftVolc: The Past, Present and Future of Volcanism in the Main Ethiopian Rift
Goal: RiftVolc is a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional collaboration between scientists from the UK and Ethiopia, focused on understanding rift volcanism in the Main Ethiopian Rift. We are aiming to understand 1) the past eruptive records of explosive eruptions; 2) the sources and processes leading to unrest in the volcanoes; 3) impact of future eruptions. I am leading the "past" work package, focusing on the Late Pleistocene - Holocene frequency-magnitude relationships of volcanism, and the eruption dynamics of peralkaline rhyolite eruptions, in order to assess volcanic hazards.
