Following a review of the literature on RS factors and parenting, we seek to answer the following questions: What are the most common concerns among Christian parents? What are the parenting styles of Christian parents? What discipline strategies are perceived as effective by Christian parents? What parenting resources are commonly utilized by Christian parents? What predicts “Sanctified Parenting”?

Effective consulting, like effective parenting, takes place within a supportive relationship. In this conference presentation, I address three evidenced-based factors important to consulting with parents. First, I review the importance of the relationship factor in parenting and consulting. I suggest a multimodal approach. Second, I examine six strategies for strengthening adaptive behavior and suggest how to improve on common approaches. Third, I look at strategies to reduce maladaptive behavior with some cautions about misapplications.
