NASA Vehicle System Safety Technology - A Performance-Based Flight Deck Information Management System for Improved Hazard and State Awareness and Source Data Integrity

Goal: Analyze, design, and develop methods and architectures to integrate information onboard the aircraft to improve the performance and thus quality of the flight crew hazard and state awareness for a subset of “ineffective alerting” and “invalid source data” problems.

Develop:

(1) methods to keep the automation going (automation continuity);
(2) methods to perform aircraft state prediction, identify potential hazardous or other off-nominal situations, and notify the flight crew.

This project was a collaboration with Ohio University(Prime, Dr. Maartin Uijt de Haag) and the University of Iowa, Operator Performance Laboratory (Dr. Thomas Schnell).
