Background and aims: MSF has operated in resource-limited settings since 1971. In 2010 it launched a telemedicine program to support complex cases. We have reviewed the first 7 years of activities....
Background and Aims: In 2015, a research study of medical outcomes of 177 adolescents living with HIV and on Anti-Retroviral Treatment in the MSF Dawei HIV Clinic was undertaken. A qualitative research component on the specific needs of adolescents was included, as there is very little research about this vulnerable group...

Nearly 20 million children of the 52 million children with undernutrition are affected by severe acute malnutrition. Proportion of kwashiorkor among SAM cases is country dependent: 0 - 50%; associated mortality is higher. Despite large number affected and high mortality rate, research peaked in 1970s and topic has remained neglected since...
“DiDiMAS” Syndromic Approach to Detection of Infectious Agents in Diarrhea in Children with SAM, Unité Nutritionelle Thérapeutique, Alerte Santé/ALIMA Hôpital de l’Amitié Tchad-Chinois N’Djaména, Chad

This study aims to identify risk factors for death amongst children under 5 years of age treated at the OCG VL treatment center in Tabarak Allah, Gedaref state, Sudan between January 2010 and July 2017.

Serum electrolytes are commonly used in industrialized countries to manage severely dehydrated and critically ill children, but this diagnostic too is rarely available in pediatric humanitarian projects. Nonetheless, electrolyte disorders are common in these contexts, in particular in malnourished children, where hypokalemia is frequent and associated with the occurrence of death...
Sickle cell disease is an increasing global health problem in children and a neglected disease in sub-Saharan Africa - particularly in humanitarian settings. So far, Médecins Sans Frontières has little experience with sickle cell outpatient clinics. Estimates suggest that about 300000 infants are born each year with the disease today and that numbers could rise up to 400000 infants per year in 2050...

According to WHO, worldwide 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental disorders. Half of all mental illnesses begin by the age of 14 and three-quarters by mid-20s. Neuropsychiatric conditions are the leading cause of disability in young people in all regions. If untreated, these conditions severely influence children’s development and their educational attainments...
Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE) accounts for a significant proportion of neonatal deaths in resource limited settings. Moderate hypothermia started within the first 6 hours after birth is known to improve survival and outcome at 18 months. Although now considered standard care in developed countries, controlled therapeutic hypothermia requires close monitoring and advanced care, which are not yet feasible in MSF settings...
Case report presentation: an eight month old child, without relevant past personal or familiar medical history, was admitted presenting a severe and disseminated blistering dermatosis, of 1 month of evolution...
