The pre-conference workshops are proving to be more than we could have hoped for! Have you joined any of them? What did you think? The first pre-conference day was exciting and offered intense discussions on using patterns to design sustainable business models that continued after the workshop’s official end-time. The participants in the other workshops during the first day also had hands-on experience on what tools can be used for stimulating dialogue and multi-stakeholder, systemic perspective when business modelling. Finally, how managers can create gender-equal organizations was also in focus. Today, in the morning, we are talking about the future of sustainable entrepreneurship research, teaching and consultancy. In the afternoon we focus on Co-Creating a collection of sustainable business model design practices to support start-ups, with an exciting panel of experts from Canada, US, Sweden, and South Africa. Do you want to join the conference? It’s not too late as we just opened for late registration.

Organizations have an impact on sustainability! Do you have a paper (idea) with impact? Submit to our NBM Conference track “Exploring Organizational Impact” – Until 31st January 2021!
Whether or not organizations employ truly sustainable business models depends on how they are designed and implemented as well as the environmental and social impacts they have.
Yet, while the impact organizations around the world have is tremendous, actionable knowledge about how to assess, manage, and design organizational impact is limited.
At this year’s (online) International Conference on New Business Models we invite you to our track on “Exploring Organizational Impact”.
We will shed light on (1) ways to assess and manage the sustainability performance of business models, and (2) how business model patterns serve as design tools for sustainable business models.

Since COVID19 is still not entirely under control, which brings a number of restrictions related to travel and hosting lager events. This makes planning and organizing a physical conference highly uncertain. Therefore, we decided to host NBM@Halmstad 2021 entirely online with plenary sessions, digital conference room as well as social virtual spaces for interaction and networking.
We will build on the experience and learning from NBM@Nijmegen 2020 to make sure that you can immerse yourself in a true “conference bubble” and have a great online conference experience.
The call for papers is already out. Please see: https://www.newbusinessmodels.org/.

NBM@Halmstad 2021 offers a pre-conference, half-day doctoral workshop.
A new feature of the NBM@Halmstad 2021 conference is to offer a pre-conference, half-day doctoral workshop. The doctoral workshop is intended for students who work on new business models-related topics and are at different stages in their PhD studies process. The objective of the workshop is to support doctoral students as they shape their dissertations. Students will have opportunities to discuss their work in small groups with senior faculty and peers, to meet and interact with future colleagues, and to enhance their overall development. The workshop will be held online on 9 June before lunch. We are happy to announce that we have a great team of senior faculty that would participate in the workshop - @Charles Baden-Fuller, @Jan Jonker, @Joan Enric Ricart, @Jonas Gabrielsson, @Jonatan Pinkse, @Minna Halme, @Nancy Bocken, @Stefan Schaltegger, @Svante Andersson, and @Yuliya Snihur. COVID-19 is amongst us and has far-reaching consequences. We are dealing with severe restrictions that affect all parts of our life. So is the case for attending large meetings and travel. At this moment, the conditions to organize a physical conference in July in the Netherlands are highly uncertain. We dare not continue as planned based on the health-risks, participation-risks, travel restrictions, and the associated moral risks.
To assure continuity of the #NBMconference2020, we have decided to cancel all physical conference activities.
Instead, the 5th International Conference on New Business Models, July 1&2 2020, will be turned into a fully digitally organized event with online plenary sessions, digital conference rooms, a digital hangout space etc.

NBM@Nijmegen2020 offers an e-ticket and an extended deadline Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been searching for a secure solution to give you access to NBM@Nijmegen2020 and present your work at a distance. To motivate you in participating in the NBM2020 conference we would like to provide you with the option to show your work via a digital connection. You stay 'at home' and do not have to travel. But unfortunately, reliable digital connections do not come for free. We can offer you the option of an e-ticket for the #nbmconference2020 at the price of a regular ticket. Given the reach of the technological infrastructure, we cannot grant you full access to the conference. We will assure access to all plenary sessions and a selection of tracks. If you go for the e-ticket, we will, of course, make sure you will be in one of those digitalised tracks to present your work. So please submit your work, either way. We have extended the submission deadline for one more week (29.03.2020) given these changes. We are also flexible, so if in the end, you can come to Nijmegen (Welcome!) your ticket still gives you access to the full conference. We hope this helps to make the conference a success in these uncertain times. If changing conditions require novel adaptions we will get back to you with appropriate measures. Sorry for any inconveniences. The organising team of NBM@Nijmegen2020, Jan Jonker, Niels Faber and Sjors Witjes

The new deadline for submissions is set on Sunday March 22, 2020.
We have received several inquiries with regards to the spread of the COVID-2019 virus. In order to be prepared for possible travel restrictions  we are busy equipping our venue for interactive webinars in combination and addition to the regular live presentations. We are doing so within the European framework on privacy and personal information. Broadcasted material will be accessible to online conference participants only. Remote storage of feeds will not be facilitated and is strictly forbidden. Further updates can be found in the ‘news’ section of our conference website: www.nbmconference.eu/news

The 4th International Conference on New Business Models (1-3 July 2019, in Berlin) aimed to motivate vivid discussions on new business models with the potential of contributing to a sustainable development of the natural environment and humanity. Corresponding business models and business activities require entrepreneurs and innovations that foster transitions to future-fit societies, building on values such as responsibility and justice. This endeavour, in turn, requires much more progress in inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary research. Against this background, the 4th International Conference on New Business Models gathered theoretical and empirical contributions that bring together insights from the fields of sustainable entrepreneurship, innovation, and transition studies on the one hand, and business models for sustainability on the other hand. The contributions have been collected in the full conference proceedings.

Society faces a broad range of urgent sustainability challenges, described, for example, by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. For businesses, public institutions, and civil society it is no longer a question whether they should aim for more than just economic value creation, but how they can integrate multiple forms of value creation with respect to, for example, ecological or social challenges. This shift in meaning and focus of value creation brings forth not only possible alterations in current and existing business models, but also the conception of “new business models”. In particular, “business models for sustainability” contributing to ecological, social, and economic value creation are of high relevance. The development and implementation of such business models require entrepreneurship and innovation to foster transitions to future-fit societies. Against this background, the 4th International Conference on New Business Models calls for theoretical and empirical contributions, and also session proposals, that bring together insights from the fields of sustainable entrepreneurship, innovation, and transition studies on the one hand, and business models for sustainability on the other hand. NBM @ Berlin 2019 is hosted by the Chair for Corporate Sustainability, ESCP Europe Berlin. The conference will take place at ESCP Europe in Berlin, Germany, from 1st to 3rd July 2019.
