Having observed evidence suggesting an ‘aesthetic of disorder’ in contemporary culture, which co-exists with a quest for perfection allied to maximum performativity, this dissertation is centred on the practice of the Irish-born artist Mark Francis, which negotiates both order and disorder and alludes to key concepts underpinning the research.
