"How is it possible that people who have been banked or financially included in the formal financial sector after a while become unbanked again?"
Economic constraints, such as high interest rates, unemployment, high cost of financial services, and high taxes can make cost of financial services for low-end customers will be high and they want to become unbanked. Ozili in his paper examined the financial inclusion-exclusion paradox. Paradox where "banked adults can become financially excluded (or unbanked) when economic and social constraints make it difficult for them to remain in the formal financial sector."
  • Do you think that some policy instruments can change this situation?
  • Is it the key activity of policy makers or representants of banking sector not to allow customers being unbanked?
